May 8: Anniversary of the birth of Miguel Hidalgo in Mexico (1753); Victory in Europe Day (1945)

Lady Blanche Arundell

1643 – First English Civil War: The first siege of Wardour Castle ended after six days with the surrender of the Royalist garrison under Lady Blanche Arundell (pictured).
1842 – A train derailed and caught fire near Versailles, France, killing at least 52 people.
1945 – A parade in Sétif, French Algeria, celebrating the end of World War II in Europe became a riot and was followed by reprisals, carried out by colonial authorities over the following weeks, that killed thousands.
1963 – In Huế, South Vietnam, soldiers opened fire into a crowd of Buddhists protesting against a government ban on the flying of the Buddhist flag on Phật Đản, killing nine and sparking the Buddhist crisis.
1972 – Four members of Black September hijacked Sabena Flight 571 to demand the release of 315 Palestinians convicted on terrorism charges.

World Red Cross Red Crescent Day[edit]

Why is it that World Red Cross Red Crescent Day is mentioned in the selected anniversaries box but isn't mentioned in the main text of the article itself? The Red Cross is mentioned under the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, but shouldn't there be a separate entry under holidays and observances? --Paul_012 ^(talk) 06:39, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Julian of Norwich[edit]

In May 2008, I added that this was the feast day of Julian of Norwich in both Anglican and Lutheran churches, but this has now been removed. Can some please explain why? If you go to the Wikipedia article Julian of Norwich, this is exactly what the article says. The date of May 13 is her commemoration day in Roman Catholicism; I recently corrected this for May 13. In accordance with the guidelines, I'm weeding the Births and Deaths sections by removing entries for celebrities with 0-4 articles in other languages. Where possible, these will be transferred to the relevant Year in Topic articles. Astronomer Jack Horkheimer serendipitously discovered Mary Magdalene's birthday of May 8, 2 BC / 8.5.752 AUC / 3759 HC.

Phyllida Law[edit]

This page tells us Phyllida Law was born on 8th May, 1932.

But her article tells us her birthday was on 6th July.

Can someone double check this, and do the necessary corrections, please? I wouldn’t know where to start!
