Should parts of this article really be in past tense? The network is still running in Sweden, and even the data service is still available.

SMS[edit]

NMT cannot claim to be the first fully automated system since both MTA and MTB were fully automated.

MTD was not fully automated, you were connected by a voice channel and changed to the communication channel by hand! (MTA was fully automated but very expensive and discountinued since the customer response was very weak, MTD worked but clumsy, but sold enough to motivate MNT) It was fast replaced by the first NMT units since they were automated AND worked seamlessly over the whole network, you were connected (at the same price) irrespective of where you were as long as there was coverage. (The usual way for using it when visiting customers was to ask the receptionist "if you were permitted to route the calls to her so she could transfer the calls to the nearest phone where you were repairing the computer (as example)" When the really mobile units came (first big as a briefcase, later just 2 kg and big as a big softcover (700 page type) you did away with transferring the call as you had to do with the early car mounted units. What made a success was just that you automatically was reached wherever you was in the NMT coverage. The sales for the first years was bigger than projected for year 2000!

I was partly involved since I worked for Nokia at that time and traveled between Stockholm and Helsinki repeatedly, and since Nokia made the phones we could have them for nothing as long as our boss payed the phone bill.Seniorsag (talk) 14:43, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Síminn Iceland closes down NMT[edit]

Siminn has closed down it's NMT system from today (1st September 2010). According to there own news, and also in accordance with there own frequency permit on 450Mhz band. Jonfr (talk) 09:39, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Skylink[edit]
