Page move[edit]

This page was moved from Head of the River as I feel it is likely to cause confusion. A rower from the UK or Ireland referring to the Head of the River will be referring to the race on the River Thames in London, which is the more famous race anyway. Average Earthman 11:46, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)

The Head of the River in the UK was started by an Old Geelong Grammarian, who had rowed in the Victorian Head of the River.

Article Split Up[edit]

This article is currently 107kb - which is VERY big, and i think it might be good to split this article into an article for each state race. eg: Head of the River (Western Australia) etc. This race certainly is sufficiently notable within WA, not sure about other states. Agreed. I was thinking of spliting it up into Boys and Girls Head's of the River..but different states sounds good too. Both the boys and girls races are very notable in NSW as well. Loopla 10:26, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that section was designed to glorify the school, rather it was the only information that could be found about past winners. If you look closely it doesn't state that Brisbane Boys College won every year, as there are a large number of years missing. I think the intention was that if the QLD HOTR winners table was started, people with a knowledge of the winning years of other schools could make additions. I'm going to revert back to the original, but encourage discussion about whether this section is inappropriate. Loopla 10:42, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article is accurate so there is no reason to change it, if anyone feels that it is unaccurate then they should research it, and update the article themselves, so that it has all the winners. Twenty Years 11:06, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chronology of use of the "Head of the River" name?[edit]

Since the first NSW AAGPS head of the river took place well before 1926 it seems unlikely that it took its name from the Thames Race. 210.84.46.72 07:45, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Not necessarily. Head of the River (New South Wales) says a regatta has been held since 1893, but makes no mention of what its name was. So, as yet, we have no information as to when it was called "Head of the River" - it may well have adopted that name after 1926. Pdfpdf (talk) 22:26, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Head of the Schoolgirls (Victoria)[edit]

I'm creating I've created a new page for the HOSG (Victoria) because at the moment the Head of the River (Victoria) page is a total mess. These two races are completely different and can't be lumped onto the same wiki page - they both deserve a seperate encyclopedia entry. Since 1981, girls have also competed in the Head of the River, and as more schools become co-ed, (though some never will) it has become an important race.
