Hi, Carey. Nice to see a kiwi around to keep the Ozzies in place. Spoilers are an interesting issue (and a divisive one too!) around here. Have a flick around Wikipedia contains spoilers, Twelve Monkeys etc for a rough idea of what the issues are! sjc

Nice to see a New Zealander...your country sounds beautiful based on what I've read from a marvelous author, Essie Summers. --firepink

Hi Carey, as a fellow NZer I've added a Trees of New Zealand page if you feel like adding more articles in the rimu vein. Lisiate 21:20 Jan 20, 2003 (UTC)

Hi! I'll see when I can find time. You may also see me moving punctuation around and checking spelling. --carey 19:24 Jan 22, 2003 (UTC)
Hi Carey - That article's now called List of trees of New Zealand - since it was a list of trees. NZ Trees have their own category now, too! Grutness 09:12, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I gave the Weta and Morepork articles some loving if you're interested :) ---

Phonetic symbols not rendering[edit]

Hi Carey, In the changes you recently made to the NZ English article, some of the new phonetic symbols are not rendering properly. They are just rectangles. It only seems to occur with the symbols you recently changed. The schwa symbol renders OK. Bkonrad 14:01, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Maori[edit]

Greetings, Carey, fellow-Kiwi. I see not much activity from you in recent months (unless it continues anonymously). I've an idea I recently commented favourably on something you had done, but I can't put a finger on it. Anyway, with your obvious knowledge of things concerning our tangata whenua, maybe a look at the fledgling Maori Wikipedia may inspire something! Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Your user page[edit]

Hi Carey, I found your user and user talk pages while doing some wikiarchaeology. . I have restored all of their earliest surviving revisions from old copies of the Wikipedia database, so they are available to everyone now. Hope you don't mind. Graham87 09:01, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay[edit]

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
