Cart before the horse[edit]

Good work on this article. Just one comment: It is usually called "Profit impact of marketing strategy". They were originally assessing the impact of strategy on profitability, not the reverse. mydogategodshat 15:54, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I will change the "on" to "of" and add one or two more details. mydogategodshat 18:05, 2 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hello Mydogategodshat. You've turned my original entry into something really useful, thanks. I always thought "on" was the wrong preposition ... but Dibb, Simkin, Pride and Ferrell give it that name. MattRevell

Thanks Im happy to. Strategy has been a prime interest of mine for a long time. mydogategodshat 21:31, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I think the reason some recent authors have changed the name to "on marketing strategy" is the problem of proving causation. The original researchers developed correlations between variables and then made the not unreasonable assumption that it was the strategic variables that caused profitability rather than the other way around. However, as mentioned in the article, some recent researchers question this assumption. mydogategodshat 19:06, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)

One small addition from my side: It is called "Profit Impact of Market Strategy" not "Marketing Strategy". Marketing obviously influences on the business performance and is captured in the study, the PIMS study however captures the whole market position of a company (internal as well as external, as described above) and has therefore a much bigger scale. Also interesting to know is that the Database is still being updated and used. This is done by PIMS associates in London. • Moritz.911 Dear Sir or Madame, to sustain the quality standards of Wikipedia, the title should be changed into the right one. In the German version of Wikipedia the article about Profit Impact of MARKET Stratgey has the right title as the academic literature suggest. Currently this is not the case, I hope we will find a solution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Moritz.911 (talkcontribs) 08:16, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong title, does not align with the encyclopedia guidelines of Wikipedia[edit]

According to the book "The PIMS Principles, linking strategy to performance" by Robert D. Buzzell and Bradley T. Gale, the correct title should be "Profit Impact of Market Strategy". Buzzell, R.D. & Gale, B.T., 1987. The PIMS (Profit Impact of Market Strategy) principles: linking strategy to performance, New York: Free Press.

Please change the title of the article.
