Actually, you can remove the card whilst the phone is on. This is done by entering the phone's card management menu, and selecting "Swap memory card". This then turns off all open programs, allowing you to safely eject the card while the phone is still on. This is in contrast to most other phones incorporating MMCs, where you actually have to turn the phone off before you can remove the MMC. What's more, the data loss message is merely a disclaimer. So long as you close all open programs which use the MMC before you eject it (check by holding down the menu key for a few seconds), you can safely eject the card every time without using the phone's card control menu, ignore the warning message, and never have any problems. I let the menu item count, didnt know it :) (But just removing the card while the phone is running because your chances of not losing anything are good... - then you could also claim that all ATAPI hard disks are hot-pluggable, because unplugging them while running has a low chance of destroying it) --Tjansen 22:08, 29 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Well, quite a few of the hot-swappable items on PCs will cause you to lose data if you eject them at the wrong time as well. All hot-swap entails is the ability to insert and remove these things while the host phone/computer is still on, so you are saved the inconvenience of having to turn it off every time. A quick net search gives the same result, that the definition of hotswap is the ability to remove or insert components (including storage devices) without first powering down the system.
