Trying[edit]

Trying to save a dictdef article by making it into a list. Not sure that much can be written about the general topic "childhood disease" other than providing a list of them.

Might be useful to list common childhood diseases and then less common or rare childhood diseases separately.

Also might be useful to have a separate list of the childhood diseases for which there are vaccinations.

It seems to me the article should specify that it does not include diseases that can strike adults, or the list becomes meaningless. Tempshill 01:31, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Definition, inclusion criteria[edit]

This article needs a precise decision of "childhood diseases". As I have herd this term used, it refers specifically to infectious diseases that are usually acquired in childhood. This would exclude Duchenne's muscular dystrophy from the list, since this is not an infectious disease. Also, Chagas disease is on the list, but the article on this disease does not say anything about it predominantly affecting children.

I'm going to look for some sources that define "childhood disease", but perhaps somebody has some input? Is he back? 22:18, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

expansion[edit]

should be expanded from a list to an article!MYINchile 19:44, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

stupid[edit]

This is just a list of random diseases that children may possibly get. Childhood diseases refers to those fairly commonly, specifically in the past for most developed countries, disproportionately contracted or experienced during childhood. It refers to communicable diseases only, and they were commonly seen as a rite of passage and a common youth experience. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.157.44.200 (talk) 09:43, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Other one[edit]

Could be more than a list[edit]

This is currently a very haphazard list of diseases. It would be much more useful to divide it into sections and explain why these are diseases of childhood, or how they differ from adult equivalents. For example, many of the infections listed affect children because adults already have immunity from having been infected as children. Childhood cancer tends to be distinct from adult cancer as children's tumours have not had time to accumulate so many deleterious mutations. --Mgp28 (talk) 10:19, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
