I enjoy taking Damiana due to its effect on my libido. It's a general stimulant too. By that I mean taking 2 gel caps with water produces a bit of anxiety in my lower digestive tract. This is not unpleasant! As an herbal tea, Damiana didn't offer me the same benefit.

I take Damiana in conjunction with Maca and (perhaps) Yohimbine. The 3 may be a little too much stimulation, so I maintain the dosage of Maca and Damiana, then use Yohimbe on a recreational basis. I can say taking the 3 jointly does increase sexual interest & need.

I enjoy smoking damiana and making tea with it. When I smoke sometimes it only makes me feel lightheaded (in a good way) but does nothing else, while other times it makes me completely euphoric and content. I enjoy the tea mixed with other herbs. When I make herbal teas for colds I like to put damiana in there for taste and to relax me and make me feel a little better. Bobertlo 21:54, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Talk about original research and unsourced statements.... I have refraiend from deleting the comments towards the end of the article about smoking the stuff cause quite frankly i know nothing about it, but the erowid vault (linked at the bottom of the page) says nothing about the use of this substance beyond making teas out of it. Bobertlo, find yourself some backup on this and cite it. ^-Shaggorama 01:40, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and removed it. I've personally smoked damiana, but without any kind of reliable source referencing it, we've got no business putting instructions on how to smoke herbs ("through a pipe or bong is highly recommended as the first toke can often be quite harsh") in Wikipedia. -GTBacchus(talk) 08:05, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that providing instructions on smoking it, especially without a reliable source, is a bad idea.
However, I feel that completely omitting any mention of its use in recreational smoking is disingenuous, as it is used in such a way, and its article should reflect that. Perhaps a compromise of a small mention of its use in smoking with heavy emphasis on the lack of research over it, added under the "Uses" section would suffice.
There also may be more research at the present, which could justify a small addition. VoidOfGluten (talk) 22:08, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lestrad (talk) 13:08, 25 July 2016 (UTC) Interestingly, the French Wikipedia entry on Damiana has extensive passages devoted to its aphrodisiacal properties and its traditional use as an aphrodisiac, and references modern research confirming those aphrodisiacal properties (e.g.: 5.^ Arletti, R., Benelli, A., Cavazzuti, E., Scarpetta, G., & Bertolini, A. (September 1998), "Stimulating property of Turnera diffusa and Pfaffia paniculata extracts on the sexual behavior of male rats", Psychopharmacology 143: 15–19; 6. ^ Estrada-Reyesb, K.R., Ortiz-Lópeza, P., Gutiérrez-Ortíza, J., & Martínez-Mota, L. (2009), "Evaluation of Aphrodisiac Activity of Turnera aphrodisiaca", International Journal of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemical Research 1: 1–4)[reply]

It also mentions its use in "legal drugs" and the banning of Damiana-containing products in Louisiana and in the UK. There's a quote from PM Cameron from 2012 in which he says he's "determined to eradicate legal drugs" - YCMTSU

Psychoactive effects?[edit]

I hear of and see many people purchase "damiana" from head shops and they smoke it and claim it gets them "high". 184.96.235.189 (talk) 22:03, 24 November 2010 (UTC
