German names are important, as they were the official names for most of the 1800s, a period of history that is of interest to many users. We can leave them off the interior, as long as they stay on the main topic. But if I were reading an English language history text that spoke in terms of the 1800s, it would be more convenient to see them with the rest of the description, rather than having to hunt them down through the numerous links.

Poland was occupied by the Germans against the Poles' will, and is considered to be ilegal action. The Germans persecuted the Poles for using Polish language and renamed many Polish cities into German language. That's why the German placenames in Poland are considered offensive and insluting. In my opinion it's enough to give the German alternatives once in the main article, and not everywhere. Mestwin of Gdansk 17:01, 19 Mar 2004 (UTC)
