House list[edit]

Today I (the creator of this article) added a list of houses. Add other houses if you want to, but keep it in alphabetical order please!

"Creator", please be aware that your edits sometimes 'breaks up' words (ie "Glider PRO" could be "Gli der P RO"). I've tried to fix a few of them with a recent, fairly major edit. "Creator", it'd be nice if you would register for a user name by following the link in the top right - it won't take you two minutes. Wootest 09:26, 29 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Does this have anything to do with the breaking up of words?

Structure[edit]

I've moved a lot of text around to make up a more sensible structure. I propose categorization into the following four distinct areas:

  • Game basics, history and gameplay
  • House building
  • All other in-depth game information that does not directly fit into House building (such as version history)
  • Community and the future

I've started by making a reasonable attempt to organize the existing information into this structure. Surely many sections overlap, but could be placed more closely in one area.

To make the page more compact and less tedious to scroll through, I made the object and house lists have columns - I also removed the header status of the object sections to shorten the TOC a bit.

However, I'm not wild about the house list as it seems to go against the grain of Wikipedia's encyclopedic nature - the article links to several house repositories for the hungry Glider PRO player, and house reviews are equally spread. Instead, I think the house list should be reduced to "notable Glider PRO houses" and only include wildly popular or otherwise notable houses, like Autopilot, the self-playing house by Ward. However, as I was not around Glider PRO until 2003 and later, I don't feel like I'm the right man to do this. (For those eager enough to take on the task: I propose that, if you're not one of the authors of Slumberland, you don't nominate your own house but leave it up to others to do so.) --Wootest 19:57, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

IMO a "notable authors" list, with each's main contributions briefly explained, would work better. I've been into the game since ... well, at least 1996, so I could easily write it some day. I'm however not sure just how many authors I should list. The Slumberland author quartet is an obvious starting point, but where to go after that? The fame of GPRO has shrunk over the years - would authors of new(ish) houses that are within the community recognized as important qualify? This game was never that popular anyway, so I'm inclined towards a yes. Tropylium 22:29, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vote for revised house list[edit]

You can vote for up to five houses. (Order is not important - all your votes are worth the same.) Slumberland and Demo house are exempt from voting as they will be included anyway - every other house is fair game, but should be noteworthy in some aspect. Unless you're credited as a creator of Slumberland, please abstain from voting for your own houses. Please vote while logged in, and sign your vote using four tildes (see instructions below the editing text box).

  • Autopilot (by Ward Hartenstein), Skyscraper (by John Calhoun) Wootest 11:06, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Possible POV[edit]

"it is the best house of all time", under Slumberland, could be considerd POV, couldn't it? Macintosh User 22:50, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Info on older Glider incarnations[edit]

Here is a Glider page that among other thing feature the 1991 release date for Glider 4.0 which was not the first in the series, but the first published by Casady & Greene. Arru 11:49, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:GliderProLogo.png[edit]

Image:GliderProLogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move to Glider?[edit]

It seems odd that Glider PRO has its own article, but Glider itself has none. Would there we any opposition to converting this page to section of either Glider (computer game) or Glider (computer game series)? Tlesher 20:02, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have my support. --Tropylium 09:02, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup, notability etc.[edit]

Yes, this page is in need of cleanup, no argument about that. I've half-assedly contemplated the job, but I suppose at least the item/background information could be just plain wiped (this is, after all, not a manual).

As far as notability goes: Glider PRO won some "Best XYZ Game of 19MN" awards back in its day, I suppose I could go hunting to see if I can relocate a sorce. --Tropylium (talk) 12:31, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That would be good, notability has no expiry date. Marasmusine (talk) 12:32, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so far I found these mentions, both from John Calhoun interviews:
  • MacWorld Best Arcade Game of the year for Glider 4 upon release [1]
  • MacWorld Game Hall Of Fame award for Glider Pro [2]
Now to hunt for actual refs. --Tropylium (talk) 19:31, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
