NPOV Notice[edit]

I added an NPOV notice to the article because it contais the following unattributed POVs:

  • Balu Mahendra is one of the greatest directors in India.
  • Only a director of Balu Mahendra's genius and range could come up with a movie as unique as Moondram Pirai as well as Sathi Leelavathi and Julie Ganapathy.
  • Some of his best films include...

If someone can attribute these claims, please do so and remove the NPOV notice. -- uriber 16:11, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)

He is worth these lines[edit]

He is one of the classical directors in south india. You shall not find more about him on Google, but people in south india especially Tamil knows well about his talents. His latest films may be bombed at box-office, but he has given some great films in his early days of his career and they are still conisdered as classics of Indian Cinema. --M.arunprasad 06:46, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conflicting nationalities?[edit]

The article says, he was born to Sri Lankan Tamil parents, but it also says he was an "Indian" director, implying he adopted Indian citizenship. --ThaThinThaKiThaTha (talk) 12:49, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The word "Indian" is pipe-linked to Cinema of India. So there shouldn't be any problem. Vensatry (ping) 18:23, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's very misleading though in this case without knowing the backlink. It's better to reword it to "was a Sri Lankan cinematographer, director, screenwriter and film editor, who worked in various Indian film industries, mostly in Tamil cinema."--ThaThinThaKiThaTha (talk) 18:48, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, because that would be wrong. Vensatry (ping) 18:53, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's wrong, because...? Isn't he Sri Lankan? --ThaThinThaKiThaTha (talk) 18:55, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Because that gives us an impression that he was associated with Cinema of Sri Lanka. Besides, the next line says "Born into a Sri Lankan Tamil household", so there is no need to repeat his "Sri Lankan origin" twice in the lead that too in successive sentences. Vensatry (ping) 19:05, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Currently the only impression the wording gives us is he was a naturalized Indian who immigrated earlier from a Sri Lankan Tamil household. This has zo be fixed asap.--ThaThinThaKiThaTha (talk) 19:19, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot think of an alternative suggestion at the moment. You may suggest alternates, but not like "was a Sri Lankan cinematographer ..." Vensatry (ping) 06:21, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Issue with references[edit]

A couple of references seem to be links to blogs which are not verified sources. Interestingly this is a GA, and these things went unnoticed. 117.192.186.20 (talk) 09:05, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations![edit]

Congratulations on appearing on Wikipedia's main page as a "Did you know..." listing. I've been involved in the DYK process, (never successfully, I might add!) and so I know the time it takes and the coordination required between between editors...let's just say it isn't the easiest thing to accomplish. You deserve recognition, appreciation and applause. Thank you very much to all the contributing editors who made this listing possible.:The Very Best of Regards,

Balu Mahendra instead of "Mahendra"[edit]

The article mentions him as Mahendra throughout instead of Balu Mahendra. Any particular reason for this or can it be edited to refer to him as Balu Mahendra through out ? sriks8 (talk) 05:06, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
