What does 1st Class City mean?[edit]

Anyone? Does it mean something or is it just boosterism? --AW (talk) 15:36, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The result of the move request was: Move. Jafeluv (talk) 10:34, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Calamba CityCalamba, Laguna — Part of series of multiple page move requests involving Philippine cities under the category Cities/Municipalities with the same name as other local cities/municipalities (regardless if it is highly urbanized, independent or component city). This request is made after preliminary discussions for the removal of the word "city" from most of the article titles of Philippine cities and providing disambiguation wherever necessary. Some disambiguation may involve using the <cityname>, <provincename> format, regardless if it is highly urbanized, independent or component cities. In here, <provincename> purports to describe the general area and not necessary as the mother political unit of the city, since some people might have wrongly believed that this naming convention is exclusively for Philippine towns only. For more information please see Wikipedia_talk:Tambayan_Philippines/Task_force_LGU#Article_names_for_Philippine_cities:_.3Ccityname.3E_.3Ccity.3E. JinJian (talk) 14:27, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removing the word "City"[edit]

We should not remove the word "City" after the name of a city in every article here in Wikipedia. We should emphasize the word "City" so that the people will know. Biñan, Laguna is now a City, others will not know that unless we will indicate to its article here that it is a City by making its name as Biñan City.

There was once a discussion if you don't know. And that discussion was posted everywhere a long time ago.--JL 09 q?c 15:01, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:WikiCalambenyo[edit]

User:WikiCalambenyo (and 3 IP users, all from the same company in Makati (same as WikiCalambenyo?)) keeps on reverting my edits in one shot without any explanation. I intend to improve the article by formatting it consistently with other Philippine municipalities/cities, by correcting mistakes (for example, official name is "City of Calamba", not "Calamba City" - see seal!), by removing obvious duplication (for example, the Calamba Plaza), and removing non-encyclopedic content (for example, WP is not a directory for listing businesses). IMO, such edits are in line with WP:EDIT, WP:MOS and WP:NOT (actually, I've been holding back from a more aggressive clean-up - there is so much unreferenced material that can be challenged and removed). Yet, if there are specific issues with my edits, discuss the matter here to come to consensus instead of just undoing everything. -- P 1 9 9   13:53, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mayor's political party[edit]

The article said the mayor was a member of the Liberal party. The article for the mayor Jun Chipeco, Jr., says he is a member of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD party. I changed his party in this article to match the article about Jun Chipeco, Jr.. If this is incorrect, please fix it in both places. Thank you. The result of the move request was: not moved. Clear consensus to retain the current title. -- BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:09, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

– The city in Laguna is the clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the precise name of "Calamba" versus the municipality in Misamis Occidental (or even the railway station or the school in the city). It is a 1st-class income city with a population of 389,377, while the municipality is only a 4th-class income municipality with a population of 21,005. And the city is well-known as the birthplace of José Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines. seav (talk) 01:56, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose the fact that the Calamba near Manila has a bigger population than the Calamba down in Mindanao doesn't demonstrate WP:PRIMARYTOPIC criteria. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC should be used sparingly and where there is clear benefit. Anyone who knows there are two won't be harmed by having Laguna and Misamis Occidental indicated, and anyone who doesn't know there are two really does need to. Plus this would cause a lot of future mislinks. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:07, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's not just the population. I've also mentioned the income class and the fact that the city is well-known as the birthplace of the country's national hero (a fact that most Filipino students learn from history classes). I will assert that most Filipinos think of the city in Laguna instead of the municipality in Misamis when they see the word "Calamba". And listed below is further evidence of the primacy of the Laguna city. —seav (talk) 11:20, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • There are 52 pages in Wikipedia that link to Calamba, Misamis Occidental compared to 351 pages for the Laguna city. This indicates that people overwhelmingly refer to the Laguna city. And of the 6 Wikipedia articles that currently mistakenly link to the DAB page (as of this comment), all should have linked to the Laguna city article, and none to the Misamis municipality.
    • The Laguna city article was viewed 15,000 times over the last 90 days compared to just less than 1000 for the municipality.
    • Google News results show that of the 20 most recent news results, 18 refer to the city (or places within the city such as the SM City Calamba mall), 1 is a surname, and 1 is I'm not sure (but I'm willing to bet its a branch of Shakey's in the city). None indicate the municipality.y
    • Google Books results show similar results.
  • Oppose. We have a clear system to disambiguate the various places with the same name by using the province. I stand by my arguments made at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines/Archive34#Naming of places. -- P 1 9 9   13:10, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@P199:, I acknowledge that you prefer the Laguna city article to still carry the province name. However, I would like to hear what you think about the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC half of this move request. Should the DAB page which is currently at Calamba be moved to Calamba (disambiguation), and then Calamba be modified to be a redirect your preferred title of Calamba, Laguna instead of to the DAB page? This has clear benefits because I think people who link to Calamba almost always intended to link to the city article instead of a DAB page precisely because the city is the primary topic for the term "Calamba". —seav (talk) 18:36, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. As above. Same place names don't have between WP:TWODABS. ApprenticeFan work 13:59, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What does WP:TWODABS have to do with your opposition? The WP:TWODABS guideline can apply to both the current status (implies that there is no primary topic) or to the status after a successful move request (indicates that there is a primary topic). So which is it? Is Calamba City the primary topic or not? —seav (talk) 18:36, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Link counts and view counts establish WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Clear case of WP:UNDAB. --B2C 17:07, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Born2cycle, please how many times have you been asked to stop citing essays you have written or substantially rewritten in RMs and RFCs. WP:UNDAB is an essay substantially redacted by yourself In ictu oculi (talk) 20:59, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
