The format "area (name)" is unusual, I am asking for this to be moved in order to reflect the format as given in Duchy of Cornwall, Duchy of Lancaster or Duchy of Modena and Reggio for example. Gryffindor 22:55, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's no real reason for it, just historical accident really...there is also Carinthia (duchy), which should also be moved, but since it was moved and moved back at one point about a year ago, I suspect there might be some opposition to doing it again (as there may be here, I guess I'll found out...) One can easily mis-understand that Styria is a German Bundesland, which it is not.

IMHO it would be helpful in the first paragraph to say how to find it on a map, in general terms, ie somehting like "loacated in modern-day southern Austria and eastern Slovenia" Fat Red 20:40, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Early 1920s controversy?[edit]

The article on Michael Mayr alludes to a 1921 political crisis in Austria (which prompted Mayr's resignation as Chancellor) precipitated by a referendum called in Styria to leave Austria and join Germany. This article doesn't mention any early-1920s controversy over whether Styria should leave Austria, though. --Delirium (talk) 03:38, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Middle Ages[edit]

It is said "... who provided it with Habsburg dukes during the years 1379 - 1439 and 1564 - 1619." Here some things seem to have been mixed up. Members of the Habsburg family were dukes of Styria also before, between and after the periods given. (However, Styria - then part of Inner Austria - was not ruled by the same Habsburg lineage as the Archduchy of Austria proper in the years 1379/1411 - 1457 and 1664 - 1619. Cf. the articles "Inner Austria" in the English and "Innerösterreich" in the German Wikipedia.)
