This needs a complete rewrite in a new point of view, because the first writer didn't take into account that this network was CBN, then The Family Channel, for about fifteen years before Fox or ABC got involved with it. I mean, it wasn't THAT long ago. Mike H 02:10, Jun 27, 2004 (UTC)

Closed Captions[edit]

I am hard of hearing. Most of your shows are not closed caption and I would like to know why. I have two kids and I like to watch the movies with my kids but I can't enjoy it when I can't hear it or read it. Would you please put in the closed caption so I can watch this channel.

Longtime Movies ?[edit]

I don't understand what this section is for. Is it a list of movies that are regularly aired on the network, or just a partial list of films that have ever been broadcast on it? It is very confusing. I think that we should only list ABCFamily's original movies on it (movies that were first aired on abcfamily). The Channel's Future?[edit]

Sheesh, after reading the article, I have to wonder what's going to eventually become of this channel. They're discontinuing Jetix, but what does that mean for weekend programming (at least)? Isn't Disney ever going to elaborate on this?

One thing is certain, if this channel gets sold again, it had better not go to 4Kids...

I've seen a lot of stuff mentioning future programming for ABC Family, but the only one with anything confirmed is My Wife and Kids. Confirmation for the others (ex.: Blossom would be helpful in proving this isn't a junk edit.

Keeping the article clean and useful[edit]

DO NOT EVER return invalid links, the red links all over the page, only link something if you know FOR SURE it has it's own page, or add the page and link it, didn’t anyone notice all the red in the original movie section, my god, it was too much. Also, I made a separate article for programming; don't make the list on this page so long, if you have to do it, do it on the other page List of programs shown on ABC Family.

Harry Potter on ABC Fam[edit]

Article organization[edit]

I made many good changes to the article about one month ago, but still, the continuing problem is programming, so I think whoever moved the programming to the programming page made a really good decision. The link below the heading of "25 Days of Christmas" and above the paragraph that talks about the "25 Days of Christmas" says that there is a main page for the "25 Days of Christmas" but the link also says that the page doesn't exist. Reasons For Disclaimer[edit]

No source was given to justify the claim that it was spurred by discussions of "Abortion" "feminists" or "gays". Disney knew Robertson's stance on those matters when they purchased the channel. Robertson hasn't said anything new on them (unlike his unprecedented call for the assassination of Chavez).

Orphaned references in ABC Family[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of ABC Family's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Shows cancelled[edit]

So there are some ABC Family shows that are probably cancelled. I'm talking about Freak Out, Becoming Us, Job or No Job, Next Step Realty: NYC and Startup U. None of them appears on Freeform's press website. Maybe they won't even talk about them, because of the name change. What do you think? Should we consider them cancelled? Freeform (TV channel) → Freeform (TV network) – Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Television, the text of this article should describe it as a television network not a channel - its a distinction because the article is about the business entity which produces the content stream. "Television channel" is somewhat outdated terminology in that a channel is the customer-facing output - as in a virtual number assigned by TV provider, which can vary. Should we list Freeform as defunct on Spectrum?[edit]

This goes for the other channels no longer carried by Spectrum. Should August 31, 2023 be listed in the info box for Freeform, Disney Junior, Disney XD, etc. as the shutdown date for these channels for Spectrum viewers? The main historical precedents for this are how the articles for Soapnet and Nickelodeon Games and Sports for Kids have two shutdown dates listed. Soapnet has March 22, 2012 listed for the providers that replaced it with Disney Junior, and December 31, 2013 for the providers that kept Soapnet until its official closure. Nickelodeon Games and Sports for Kids has December 31, 2007 listed as its closure date for most providers, where it was replaced with The N, with April 23, 2009 listed as the closure date for Dish Network.

For examples outside of the United States, we need to look no further than the international Disney Channels, as while not inside the info box itself, the articles for Disney Channel (Australia) and Disney Junior (Australia) mention the closure of these networks on Foxtel, and thus most of their viewers on March 1, 2020, two months before they were shuttered on Fetch TV.

So, with these examples in mind, should we add August 31, 2023 as the closure date on Spectrum for Freeform, alongside the other Disney owned networks removed from Spectrum on that date that were not restored? The historical precedent for such an edit is there, and it isn't like Spectrum is a small, niche pay television provider either, thus representing a large amount of Freeform's viewers. One provider ending a network's distribution can be noted with one sentence. The infobox is not for this purpose and this is a lot different than the oddball situations involving channel transitions that were extended due to factors not known to the average viewer; the networks are otherwise available on most other providers, and if and when Freeform is wound down, that's the only date to be used in the infobox. Also, the programming remains widely available through Hulu and Disney+, which is where most viewers had transitioned to anyways.Nate • (chatter) 21:09, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But what about the prior listen examples of shutdown dates for specific providers on articles for Soapnet, Nickelodeon Games and Sport for Kids, Disney Channel (Australia), and Fox Reality Channel? If there wasn't a historical precedent for the edits I would understand your revisions, but I stated that there were prior instances of multiple closure dates listed. Should we only include the final shutdown date for those channels, which is what happened to Fox Reality Channel's article? The major difference was those transitions were all pre-Peak TV when the programming on the former network slot had nowhere to go and was shoved into the vault. Here the programming isn't going anywhere and is all found elsewhere, so there's no need to note when a provider stopped carrying it in the infobox. That argument doesn't even make sense. I legitimately do not believe streaming is an excuse for not showing the dates. Your argument is streaming-centric when streaming is irrelevant. I do see you making a case for removing the dates for the Soapnet, Nickelodeon Games and Sports for Kids, and Disney Channel (Australia) articles however, for navigability reasons. Either way, I don't believe the mere existence of streaming services should determine whether or not a service-specific closure date should be listed, as has been done so in the past. The networks are still widely available on other providers, and unless it's a true national provider like the VMPDs and Dish/DirecTV, your choice in provider is determined by where you live, and for many people, Spectrum isn't anything they know at all because they have a completely different company they can get television from (or get it from a local cooperative).
