National Lampoon[edit]

This article needs a lot more about O'Donoghue's work on National Lampoon. This was at least half of his career and it gets only a brief mention. MK2 05:37, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

"References" vs. "External links"[edit]

The reason I've changed "External links" to "References" comes from these sections of Wikipedia:Cite_sources, quoted verbatim below. (Please note in Item 2 below that the italics are theirs, and not inserted by me.) Thanks!

Complete citations in a "References" section

Complete citations, also called "references," are collected at the end of the article under a ==References== heading. Under this heading, list the comprehensive reference information as a bulleted (*) list, one bullet per reference work.

External links/Further reading

The ==External links== or ==Further reading== section is placed after the references section, and offers books, articles, and links to websites related to the topic that might be of interest to the reader, but which have not been used as sources for the article. Where there is a references section, editors may prefer to call the external links section "further reading," because the references section may also contain external links, and the further reading section may contain items that are not online.

So sources used to write an article go under "References", and other helpful citations go under "External links" if they're linkable and "Further reading" if they're not online. — Tenebrae 21:31, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The sources listed in references would be better placed as inline citations, instead of simply listed. The way they are presented, they are basically "Further reading" links, and not truly references, because they are not referencing specific statements in the article. Thus, I have added the tag to move these into inline citations. This person was well-enough known that there should be no shortage of online articles or sources that can be put as templates to cite passages. Ariel♥Gold 05:27, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Time Of Death[edit]

I have not been able to find a copy of his biography, so if anyone has read it please add on the Time of Death. Registered user 92

Original research, sourcing, and speculation[edit]

I have removed the "Death" section completely from the article, because it is unsourced, speculative, and gives no references. Please review WP:OR and WP:RS for additional information. This section should not be added into the article unless it can be sourced well, and attributed to the source. As it was, it was purely speculation. The only person who could have possibly known what happened that night is his wife, and unless she has given that information to the press, it is unverifiable.
