I've been looking for info on the "Well of Souls" site/shrine for a while Most of the info is pretty cursory. Would anyone know any good sources on the Well, the Rock; history and various myths, esp. Christian, Jewish, Muslim. --Lday 00:34, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

ther are so many mistakes in the subject for one the "well of souls" isnt related to the "guf" at all

its a rock not a cave its the center of the world by jewish belief and the rock from which the world was created it was the pedstll for the ark of covenant and while sleeping on that rock jafob fuaght the angel

For someone who complains about errors, your information are not that good either.

Jacob slept with a stone as a pillow and saw the ladder when he was fleeing from Esau - and that was at Bet-E. He wrestled with God/the angel when he returned to meet Esau again.

The Ark was made at Mount Sinai and only under David came to Jerusalem - it's exact location there is unknown.

Sources Lacking[edit]

There is some nice material in this article, but it needs developing. It is an important article to have, but of the facts contributed, there are little or no references to support them or explain where they originate. The link had no information about the actual Well of Souls. It talks exclusively about the Raiders of the Lost Ark playset, thus I moved to the appropriate article.

Deleting "Well of Souls" MMORPG section[edit]

Disambiguation page needed for "well of souls"[edit]

I think there may be too many phrases in use today regarding the term "well of souls" for there not to be a Disambiguation page for the phrase.

If I knew how to make such a page, I might do it, and add it to the top of the article.

Can someone point me to how to do it, or else make one?

And also, How can one make Wikipedia go to that vs. an article? or not?

Some examples to go on that page:

The Guf, or type of "well of souls" (Treasury of Souls from the Tree of Souls or a tree of life), is mentioned as related to souls and humans, and mentioned by Jewish mysticism, and by various Christian theologians.
The Well of Souls mentioned in Raiders of the Lost Ark (possibly referring to the topic of this article here, but in the movie it's nearby a city in Egypt, called in ancient times Tanis).
Well of souls as part of a title of a whole series of books, the first of which is Midnight at the Well of Souls.
The Seventh Sign film based partly on the Guf idea.
Bands or albums or songs using the title.
Various meanings among other groups.
Any usages in gaming software, and the "MMORPG" mentioned above (massively multiplayer online role-playing game).
Whatever else I am leaving out.

Keep polemics out of legends[edit]

"Some modern Muslims believe it to be the spot from which Muhammad ascended to heaven during his Night Journey. According to a medieval Islamic tradition, the Foundation Stone tried to follow Muhammad as he ascended..."

Did an over-zealous I/P editor add the words "Some modern"? If medieval Muslims believed the Rock tried to follow Muhammad (which quite obviously implies that he stepped on it before rising to heavens), then this is a POV edit, and a poor one at that, because it's nullified by the next sentence.

Going into polemics when dealing with medieval religious legends is like arguing with the Grimm brothers based on PC and "diversity" slogans. Both is being done, and both are signs of single-digit IQ. Arminden (talk) 08:41, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
