Question[edit]

Well no one ever replied here, so I've gone ahead and created Category:Ex-Mormons for people who were once Latter Day Saints but no longer are. Taco Deposit | Talk-o to Taco

Betty Eadie[edit]

Why is Betty Eadie in here at all? She's not LDS and I don't think ever was; she was raised Catholic but rejected a lot of the latter's teachings and seems to be essentially denomination-neutral right now -- she particularly stresses non-judgment of other faiths, which fairly few denominations today actually do in practice. Where on earth did this person get the idea that Betty Eadie isn't LDS? She has long identified herself a Latter-day Saint, and has been quite open about it. Look it up. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 149.169.29.84 (talk • contribs) .

I got it from reading all her books and other things like her emails. The burden of proof is on you to source it yourself, not the other way around, which you are welcome to. Otherwise it doesn't belong in here. 69.145.82.2 08:26, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Betty Eadie actually WAS baptised into the LDS church. She's never been excommunicated so she is, in fact, a member of record. It would be entirely inappropriate to reproduce her baptismal records here, both because she hasn't given her permission and because the LDS church hasn't. At one point in her ministry Mrs. Eadie spoke widely at LDS gatherings. The notes she refers to in Awakening Heart as having been circulated before publication of her first book were taken during one of these "firesides" and circulated among the members of an LDS family. I have attended firesides where she spoke in Arizona in the late eighties. However, Mrs. Eadie's message is directed to people of ALL faiths and philosophies. Part of that message is co-operation and unity. At times affiliation with a particular faith tradition can actually interfere with this as people become sanctimonious and self-righteous. Mrs. Eadie is trying to avoid fostering and spreading this, therefore she does not want to emphasize her affiliation with any particular church. I want to add to what the last person said. Betty is IN FACT a member in good standing of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know because I rent an apartment from one of her children, who I go to church with (i'm LDS as well), who talks about Betty all the time. As the person before me said, Betty shares her experience with anyone who will listen, and tries to keep religion out of it. She just spreads the word of Gods Love for us, His children.

 I have been to her fireside where she has spoken about her NDE, they mentioned she was at one time Young Womens President. She spoke about how she, for a time, stopped going to the LDS church (because she moved), and a wonderful visiting teacher helped to bring her back to activity. She also mentioned, that she was at a speaking engagement, it was a standing room only event, one of the missionaries who baptized her years before came to see her speak, and she was so happy she had him sit right in front.

Mistitled[edit]

I believe this page has been mistitled. Based on the official name of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, church members generally refer to themselves as "Latter-day Saints" -- not "Latter Day Saints". I know its a subtle punctuation difference, but I believe many Church members will perfer that wikipedia follow the official name. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.254.74.149 (talk • contribs) .
