2023 - activity cycle update[edit]

A new paper dropped, and Ran is now found to have three overlapping activity cycles: 1060 ± 30 days / ∼2.9 years, 3970 ± 54 / 10.9 years, and 12,355 ± 230 days / ~33.8 years. AstroChara (talk) 13:46, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Debris disc and eps Eri c[edit]

Much of the information about the debris disc on this page was about 20 years out of date. I've updated and corrected much of it, although certainly more work could be done on this. It's still not entirely clear to me what should be the distinction between the information on the disc in the Properties section and that in the Observational History section.

I've added my own ALMA image of the disc. Potentially this could be the main image at the top of the page, but I fear it may be verging on self-publication to choose to do that myself and so I wanted to check the opinions of others on this.

Perhaps controversially, I have slimmed down the parts on the predicted planet. To my knowledge, there's no other case of a predicted planet being given such prominence. I felt the information on it's prediction should be kept to the debris disc section until such a time that it's actually detected and confirmed. AstroMark (talk) 08:32, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@AstroMark: thank you for your contributions to this article, which seem reasonable, and for uploading that image. However, per WP:SELFCITE (and 'supplying photographs' further down that page), it is good practice to discuss on the talk page before adding citations to your own work, new text based upon your publications, or images sourced from them. Thank you for pointing this out. I apologise for not writing here first. AstroMark (talk) 09:05, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Appearance in fiction[edit]

Is it noteworthy that the original Babylon 5 series mostly takes place in this solar system? 2601:441:5000:ADF0:1827:3ED9:E223:18FD (talk) 00:49, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
