Admiting Women[edit]

"last students union in the world..." Ah come on, thats not verifiable, is it?! Grayum 17:46, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is, you may find this was mentioned in various material in the student body during the late 1970s. PatGallacher 19:25, 2005 August 26 (UTC)

Notable members[edit]

I would advise people to be cautious about adding names to this list. All male students prior to about 1980 will have been members, and probably the majority since then. We have a list of GU graduates, any list here would be substantially similar. I suggest restricting this to people who played an important role e.g. they were president. Debating Society?[edit]

Is this organisation actually a debating society? The article does not make it clear, so I've removed it from the category. I'm fairly sure it shouldn't belong in both Category:Studept debating stcieties and Category:Student unions. DJ Clayworth 17:18, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Union competes as a debating society in competitions. It is therefore both a student union and a debating society. Andrew Forsyth

The debating society has a seperate article though Glasgow University Dialectic Society and isn't really a part of the union --81.151.4.230 22:11, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Dialectic Society is a seperate debating society. It does not send teams to inter-university competitions. The Glasgow University Union does. One of the GUU's functions is to debate. It is a debating society. Andrew Forsyth

Controversy[edit]

Completely irrelevant and insignificant content in the larger context of the Union's history. Moptakmike 15:32, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Unverifiable, annd untrue esp the stuff about legal action Argon128 23:38, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Large chunk of controversy section was wiped by an IP from University of Glasgow. About to revert it based on Conflict of Interest. If university staff want it deleted would it not be better to discuss it here first? Joj871 0:37, 03 August 2017 (UTC)

It was not wiped by a member of staff, but by a former student who happened at that time to be posting from a campus machine (me). There was no conflict of interest and the reversion should itself be reverted. The offending section contained material that was defamatory, which was the reason for the change made to it. 79.76.49.158 14:02, 20 August 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.76.49.158 (talk)

NPOV[edit]

This whole article needs to be refined for neutral point of view, it's a bit like an advertisement in places ;) Sean 20:24, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
