- Percy is commonly believed to be short for Percival, an Arthurian character: there seems to be somewhat of a running theme of Arthurian legend in some Weasley family names. However, Percy is also an independent name, originally taken from the Percy family. In the trial from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, he is identified as "Percy Ignatius Weasley", indicating "Percy", not "Percival", as his full first name. Nonetheless, it is interesting to note that Percival is a middle name of Albus Dumbledore.
- His middle name, Ignatius, probably comes from Ignatius Prewett (the husband of Lucretia Black), a member of the Prewett family who appears to be an uncle of Molly Weasley and her brothers Gideon and Fabian.
- He passed 12 OWLs: given that Hermione required a time-turner to take twelve subjects in PoA, it is likely that Percy also required one (unless, somehow, he was able to timetable his lessons without needing to manipulate time).
No grief sentence[edit]
The black sheep of the family, he is relatively humourless, and thus becomes the butt of many of Fred and George's jokes and pranks. However, Molly initially favours him, as he causes her no grief while he is in school.
He causes her no grief at school? No, he only gets 12 OLW's, becomes a prefect, later a HeadBoy, gets top marks at his NEWT's, and once out of Hogwarts secures a job at the Ministry. Has Molly Weasley ever stopped loving her son? Isn't her fondist wish to be reunited with him... not a forced awkward one where Percy the the distraction but a real one?
It seems to me that Percy desperately wanted many of the same things his brothers (and sister) wanted... to escape a life of being poor. He saw his escape path via academic excellence and thus gaining an important job with the ministry at a young age. Though he expressed it poorly in his letter to Ron, he wants Ron to escape as well, and urged him to make the "right contacts" in Umbridge and shun Harry Potter (an anchor) to make good his escape from poverty. The diffrence is that Ron, while he hates being poor, isn't ashamed of his family and being poor, something Harry showed him. Harry is rich, but values the love of the Weasley family above all the money in his vault. Percy traded his family for a career. He never seemed to think it was possible to have both. 09:36, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

ok someone keeps changing the name to "Percivial" I just now reverted that to "Percy" if I am wrong please feel free to tell me.
Percy's Kids[edit]
Though Percy doesn't have any children or marriage listed in the epilogue, he is clearly seeing someone off from platform 9 3/4. Teachers don't meet the students on that end, so he's not a Hogwarts professor. In fact no one but children and their parents/guardians have ever been shown seeing children off, so he wouldn't be there just to enforce the rules as a ministry official. Therefore Percy must have at least one child.
