Native myth[edit]

I added "The Transformers" of Pacific Northwest native myth; but the link attached to it goes to "Transformers (toyline)". I can't figure out how to create a separate page for something that already has a name-word referring to something else . . . . advice?

I've added a link to a page where you can fill in information about the transformers myth. If you look at the source, you can see how the article name differs from the linking text.

Someone has created an article based on a version of the name of the primary transformer in Lummi, see Talk:Xelas.Skookum1 (talk) 11:59, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

It doesn't make sense to have the disambig for the term "transformer" at Transformers. Many of the links in question don't apply. For instance, Lou Reed's album would never be referred to as "Transformers". The page should be moved to a more appropriate disambig. Transformers is very commonly used to refer to the toy / cartoon / comic franchise and so should go directly there. Chris Cunningham 16:17, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. I'll support the move of this disambiguation page to Transformer (disambiguation), but this page should remain as a disambiguation page for the toy/cartoon/comic franchise with a link to the singular Transformer (disambiguation). There isn't a clear primary usage within the Transformers universe over whether an editor intends to link to the toy line or the numerous incarnations of the fictional universe when using the word Transformers and linking to the plural for Transformer is common.--Bobblehead (rants) 22:18, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Transformers" also means "more than one electrical voltage-changer". My father worked at the BTH in Rugby and helped to design them. Anthony Appleyard 09:41, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Transformers does indeed also refer to more than one electrical voltage-changer, but the disambiguation page for "Transformer" should not be at the plural version of the name, but rather at the singular version. Having the disambiguation page at the plural creates issues with articles that include Transformer, but are only referred to in the singular and never in the plural. --Bobblehead (rants) 19:11, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is usual practice with dab pages to have both the singular and plural of a term at the same page. (Table and Tables are together on the same page; Ocean (disambiguation) includes both singular and plural entries.) But the name of the page typically defaults to the singular. I support Bobblehead's proposal. --Paul Erik 03:48, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been renamed from Transformers to Transformer (disambiguation) as the result of a move request. --Stemonitis 16:26, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

film and soundtrack link[edit]

People right now are more likely to want information about the film, like I did, and the film is almost impossible to find on the page it links to now. It is buried. That and the Transformer page is so tiny that these two additional links do no harm, it can only serve to help people. I'm going to re-add them for the time being, I can see them being removed in like 3 months or so, although realistically I don't see the reason why it is necessary to remove something as notable as a big budget motion picture. -Mike Payne (talk - contribs) 15:45, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent points on the new movie. Sorry about removing the links. I pulled a bonehead and didn't check your edit summary or talk page before removing them. But hey, they are back now, so hopefully no harm no foul. That being said, once the movie has been out in DVD for awhile, I can see it being moved back to The Transformers just to keep everything related to the topic centralized at one location. Main reason for that is that many of the Transformers shows/games have been in the format of "Transformers: <something>" and allowing the movie to stay permanently will most likely result in two dab pages covering the same thing. One thing that could be done is to redirect The Transformers to here and include that dab page here. Grievously injure two birds with one stone, so to speak. --Bobblehead (rants) 16:17, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. :) And yeah, once it's out on DVD, removing it would be no big deal. I do think that moving everything on that transformers disambiguation page into this one would probably make it confusing to find the NON-transformers related items, though. I mean, who could find the Gnarls Barkley song if you have 100 entries with everything from the original series to beast wars, you know? -Mike Payne (talk - contribs) 17:58, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed Transformers so that it redirs more appropriately. People are unlikely to hit this page for the movie. To put it mildly, the odds of them doing so looking for the soundtrack aren't good enough to put money on.
As for "something as notable as a big budget motion picture", if it's half as awful as the trailer makes it look I'd be surprised if anyone is searching for it once it leaves the cinemas. ;) Chris Cunningham 18:20, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Given the box office success it's had in most countries it's been released in so far, I think it's quite likely that people will be searching for it for some time. -- JediLofty User ¦ Talk 08:31, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
