Sequel[edit]

Concurrently there is a sequal to the xbox version being developed. It hasn't been officaly announced as to which next generation console it will launch for. The XBOX 360 and PS3 are both being considered, however only one will win the bid.

Your sure its not ultimately decided for to go for the Xbox 360? Making it for Sony would seem to betray Xbox users. -- Psi Edit

Itagaki interview. He thinks the Xbox 360 is better than the PS3, why develop for something that's hard to develop for / "worse?" :D Alexander 10:15, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Whoa...cool....thanks for pointing that out. --Psi edit

The NinjaGaiden OVA[edit]

If I remember correctly, wasn't there an OVA for NinjaGaiden released somewhere around the early 90's? From what I can find about it, it was a one episode mini-movie, about 49 minutes long. I'm not positive on this though, it'd be nice to be corrected if I'm wrong about this.

[LINK REMOVED] Anime News Network info

Well your link does make sense (Ninja Gaiden was originally Ninja Ryukuden). --PSi edit

There was recently (<1 week ago) a fansub of it released (I'm pretty sure it's not licensed for distribution in the USA, but I could be mistaken). I don't remember the exact runtime, but 49 minutes sounds about right, and it is a standalone. There's no real references to when it takes place relative to the NES games, though from what some of the characters said, it's after the second or third. I was going to write up a little blurb about it later this week, though it'd be entirely a plot summary since I don't have any non-original sources to go by.Virogtheconq 15:09, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I downloaded but but haven't had much chance to sit down and watch it. I'll add a little plot blurb when I do.

Split?[edit]

The infobox looks kinda weird up there since this article covers all the games. How about making a Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) article and moving the stuff there? Thunderbrand 01:46, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone could also make an infobox for the other games. I don't really think there's enough to justify a full article for every one of the games.Virogtheconq 02:13, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah sorry about the poor infobox. I couldnt find a good quality boxart image of the First Xbox title or the other titles. Id be happy to assist with infobox and possible splitting later. -- Psi edit 08:54, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don;t mean an article for each game in the series, just a seperate article for Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black for the Xbox. Thunderbrand 17:19, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why? There isnt a story difference, just 50 missions and more battles. -- Psi edit 03:09, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think he means one page for the XBOX games, and a separate one for the (S)NES/arcade ones.Virogtheconq 06:15, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've been thinking for a long time that Xbox NG/B should have there own page but I'm now thinking it should get it's own wikibook/strategyWiki page. Irrelevant of its infamous difficulty, there's NG and it's "Master Ninja Tournament"s modes 1,2 and 3, and NGB plus it's missions. Each of those iterations have subtle and major differences, and I'm having trouble finding an unbiased explanation of each (or details about the live tournaments). Is starting a StrategyWiki page just as easy as marching in and opening it up? would it be bad ettiquette to post in NG forums for input, bringing loads of public with no clue about wikipedia's guidlines? Glaven, I've never even created a new Wikipage.,.,)WholeFnShow 03:27, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty late to this conversation, but I agree that the article should be split between this page, talking about the series as a whole, with the Xbox titles in their own article (as proposed - Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)). There's also the potential for each of the NES games to get an article, as NG2 already does, but that's another subject. --SevereTireDamage 06:21, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shadow Warriors vs. Ninja Gaiden[edit]

Technically Shadow Warriors and Ninja Gaiden are, as far as the Europeans and Australians are concerned, two completely different games, although they were both by Tecmo. The arcade "Double Dragon" style beater was known across the two continents as Shadow Warrior, as were the conversions to the ZX Spectrum, C64, Amstrad CPC, Amiga and Atari ST.

The platform game that appeared on the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Gear and the later next-gen remakes are known universally here and in Australia as Ninja Gaiden. Jamyskis Whisper, Contribs Germany 20:05, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What the hell were you talking about here? I know it has been 3 years, but jeez. I can tell ya, "Ninja Gaiden" is called "Shadow Warriors" in Sweden. The NES version... Which breaks your lovely little theory.

Swiiman (talk) 17:53, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ere</math>== Xbox Ninja Gaiden "Mythos" == I just cut out most of that gigantic section of the article. It's not necessary to have detailed descriptions of every plot point in the game, especially here. That section makes the article a lot bigger than it should be. If you feel it should be re-added, aim for brevity. --Vyran 00:21, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ninja Gaiden & Black[edit]

I don't quite understand, but is Black essentially the same as Ninja Gaiden, but with some extra contents and changes!? Or is Black the onwards of the end of Ninja Gaiden, adding more contents?

Anyway, what is the difference between Ninja Dog and Normal difficulty settings. I have two saves 1 for normal setting and the other for ninja dog. I died 3 times in the game and abandoned the ninja thingy, Ayane gave me the pink thing. So what is the difference between Ninja dog and normal. I don't wanna play a Easy settings, cuz I havn't played Easy setting when ever I play games, I always go for Normal.

So..is Ninja Dog easier than Normal setting!?

>x<ino 01:36, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Black's storyline is basically the same as the original one, except for some extra cutscenes. However, where features are concerned, many changes.

Mission Mode
Chargeable UTs (originally present in HP1 and HP2, but then it was better)
Enemy encounters change between difficulties. For example, the Stadium Challenge is Gallases in Normal, Ogres in Hard, Ogres and Berserkers in Very Hard and Berserkers only in Master Ninja
New Armlets - Celerity and Potency, while Tranquility has been removed from Story Mode
Changes to some of the weapon properties (eg. Kitetsu no longer drains Ryu's life, can be upgraded and gains Blade of the Twin Dragons at the 3rd upgrade)
New weapons - Lunar bo, Smoke Bombs
Item locations change across difficulties, so the Scarab rewards are different. On VH, for example, you cannot buy Izuna Drop immediately after upgrading the Dragon Sword to Level Two.
New enemies and old enemies gain new attacks. Like the Black Spider Clan ninjas gain a Throw, so no more Counterattack to death. T_T
Some more... The answer is out there...

Yes, Ninja Dog and Normal are quite different. Enemies deal less damage, the Fiend Challenges are 40 instead of 60 but have the same time limits as Normal. Ayane gives the sash-things for free, whereas they have to be bought (at least the Armlet of the Sun/Moon) in the other difficulties. Less enemies in some encounters. Some other changes exist, I think, but I do not know since I started on Normal and went upwards. --Warp L. Obscura 12:43, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Added Info[edit]

I added some information about Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, as IGN and other gaming sites wrote about it. Just felt it needed to be updated. You can trust it because IGN is one of the most popular leading sites for technology and video games. PЄ|>ρ3® 16:40, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New distribution of the games[edit]

I have reorganised the distribution of the games in the series article, as I though they were somewhat odd and unbalanced (mostly with each new-generation game having its own section and oddly named). Firstly, I have given an own section to the Sega games (which now have their own articles, by the way) separate from the "other versions", as the Sega games are totally different Ninja Gaiden games instead of mere ports of the same Tecmo games to other platforms (as it's the case of all the PC-Engine, Atari Lynx and computer Ninja Gaidens) and should not be considered the same. I also got the Ninja Gaiden Shadow game for Game Boy out of there, as it's another different game. And finally, I put all the modern Ninja Gaiden games (including the Xbox one) in a same section, a "Modern games" section, because these new games are story-wise connected between themselves but unrelated to all the classic Ninja Gaiden games (the new games are in the same storyline as the Dead or Alive series).

What do you think of these changes? (Mr Wesker 04:58, 5 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I have added on to this, and reworked all new releases as a Post-2004 series, since Itagaki has stated them as a separate story from the NES games. Jappalang 03:38, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, Itagaki has said recently in Ninja Gaiden two interviews that the current modern Ninja Gaidens are connected to the NES. In the 2003 IGN interview posted on this site as a reference, Itagaki doesn't make any mention of storyline being different, only the gameplay.
However in these more recent interviews, Itagaki clearly states these modern Ninja Gaiden are prequels to the NES Ninja Gaiden. The new series is not a reboot, it is a retcon like the MetalGear and the Metroid series, which also started out on the NES. The current ones are just prequels to the NES trilogy.

Gamespot's May 2008 interview
GSUK: Will this be the last in the Ninja Gaiden saga?
TI: I've really put all of my heart and soul into making this the definitive game in the Ninja Gaiden franchise. I personally don't intend to make any more games in the series.
This is a game that we've basically built from the ground up. We threw away everything we had from the first game, improved on what was good, and changed what was bad. It has been a long project, it's been close to three years in the making, so I really think we were able to accomplish everything that we wanted to achieve for this franchise. In story chronology as well, this takes place after the first Ninja Gaiden for Xbox and then after the story of this game it leads into the old NES ones, so I think we have a nice continuity there.
Maybe some of you will get the reference but Sonia, in NGII, is a CIA agent, and her name in this game is Sonia, but who knows if that is really her true name or not?

---

Video Gamer May 2008
Story chronologically as well, this takes place after the fist Ninja Gaiden for Xbox, then after this, the story for this game from a chronological stand point leads into the old Ninja Gaiden for the NES. I think we have a nice continuity there.

---

1 Up Nov 2007 Interview
1UP: Will there be any crossover from the first game?
TI: Not in particular, no. This is a new story starring Ryu Hayabusa. It takes place after Ninja Gaiden 1 for Xbox, and before the timeframe of the old Ninja Gaiden games on the NES. But right now the story details are secret; we're trying to show the gameplay first.

---

So timeline wise it goes:
Ninja Gaiden/Black/Sigma
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword (6 months after Ninja Gaiden/Black/Sigma)
Ninja Gaiden 2 (1 year after NG/B/S and 6 months after NG:DS)
NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy

Fair use rationale for Image:NinjaDistance.png[edit]

Image:NinjaDistance.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Requested move[edit]

Per discussion, the disambiguation page titled Ninja Gaiden will be eliminated and will instead be home to this series article to improve consistency with game article naming as well as to reduce any ambiguities.

In addition, this will facilitate the moving of other Ninja Gaiden articles to new places, such as moving Ninja Gaiden (video game) to Ninja Gaiden (NES). MuZemike (talk) 16:10, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I left the disambig page at Ninja Gaiden (disambiguation), you guys sort it out from there. –xeno (talk) 03:17, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File:NinjaDistanceSNES.png Nominated for speedy Deletion[edit]

An image used in this article, File:NinjaDistanceSNES.png, has been nominated for speedy deletion for the following reason: Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale as of 18 November 2011

What should I do?

Don't panic; you should have time to contest the deletion (although please review deletion guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to provide a fair use rationale
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale, then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Deletion Review

Characters[edit]

All NG characters who do not have their own articles are redirected here, but there is NO character listing in this article. Why is that? I mean, casual readers aren't going to have a clue what an Ashtar or Bio-Noid are. If someone wants to remedy this issue, that would be great. I'm currently in the process of cleaning up Ryu Hayabusa. sixtynine • speak up • 03:38, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Include Pronunciation[edit]

There should be a little slice of information about how to pronounce "Gaiden", as there seems to be a large debate about it. Google text-to speech says "Gay-den", but in the film by Nintendo "The Wizard", they say "Guy-den". — Preceding unsigned comment added by RubyTuesdaysLover69420 (talkcontribs) 07:10, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Awards in the series[edit]

I added a new section because Ninja Gaiden was US arcade game of the year in 1990, probably could do with a better source than the one I have added. Where there any other awards in the series? Govvy (talk) 12:58, 18 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
