Cream Soda Taste?[edit]

The one person I asked (when vanilla coke just came out in NZ) didn't agree with me that vanilla coke tasted like creaming soda.

But I think it tastes nearly exactly like creaming soda.

I looked on the net and found this argument: http://battleforums.com/history/show/352.html

Is it worth mentioning that v.coke tastes like creaming soda? It's something i'd like to know if I hadn't tasted it, and looked it up in an encyclopedia. Tristanb 11:50, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)

But saying it tatstes like Cream soda would be POV, wouldnt it? Antonio Girl-Boy sex toy Martin

Yeah, but any taste is POV always really. It's not my opinion, it's my perception. What do other people think it tastes like? Anyway.. how about:
Some people have compared the taste of Vanilla Coke to cream soda.
Is there a way of describing a complex taste without being POV? --Tristanb 07:21, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Isn't the fact it tastes like cream soda a bit obvious as cream soda tastes like vanilla. It tastes like anything vanilla, not cream soda specifically. Angela 07:24, Sep 14, 2003 (UTC)

lots of things taste like vanilla, but they don't taste like vanilla coke. When I bought my first vanilla coke i expected it to taste like vanilla-flavoured coke, not just vanilla-flavoured carbonated water. It was a surprise that it tasted like it did. Tristanb 10:17, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)

This is probably not worth putting in the main article, but Snackspot quotes someone as saying "It tastes as if you were drinking some normal coke on Hallowe'en, and some kid who'd eaten too many sweeties walked past and, without warning, threw up in your mouth." I think they have a good quote about Lemon Coke, too. I'll try to dig that up. -- Darac Marjal 14:23, 12 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Which one of these tastes sweeter? The thing is confusing. -Litefantastic 12:22, 4 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Taste is definitely POV...I mean, I think that Pepsi and Coke taste almost exactly alike (as well as Vanilla Coke and Vanilla Pepsi). bob rulz 02:18, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)

When I first tasted it, I thought it tasted like creaming soda. But I agree, it is POV. RealWingus 04:06, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

How about this? Go out to your local street corner and hold a blind fold tasting session! Be sure to bring your camera crew, a microphone, and a high powered celebrity. Jaberwocky6669 | Holla! 16:55, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

V branding?[edit]

Removed paragraph pending verification:

For a brief period of time in summer 2003, the bottles Vanilla Coke came in, which had before said Vanilla Coke, were changed simply to V. Afterwards, the original labling was resumed.

Can anyone substantiate this paragraph as a brand-wide relabeling? I don't remember this happening and it doesn't sound at all like The Coca-Cola Company. A much more reasonable explanation is that it was labeling test marketed in one city or limited region. If so, then not really a notable occurance. Autiger 04:16, 20 Jan 2005 (UTC)

This happened in my market, which is far from urban and bustling, so I find it notable and deserves a mention. Mike H (Talking is hot) 04:03, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
I noticed it, as well, in a number of markets around the country (due to my traveling for work). I noticed it specifically because the name of my company is VEE Entertainment, and we thought the bottles could double as our logo. :) kmccoy (talk) 04:35, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'm the one who added that, and all I have to say is 'huh'? I still don't know why they did it. -Litefantastic 23:47, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POV Revert[edit]

"For some stupid reason, the Vanilla Coke sold in Great Britain isn't as sweet and isn't as nice as the USA made coke." Psy Guy 17:06, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No Diet Vanilla Coke in 2-liters[edit]

I know that they still sell them. As in, I JUST bought a two-liter of the shit this Saturday. Please stop putting this back into the article. If you can't find them, it is an issue with your local retailer. Mike H (Talking is hot) 07:51, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

History of "Vanilla Coke"[edit]

Vanilla coke has been served for a long time in diners and by soda jerks. The article mentions this in passing, but perhaps it warrants it's own section. Especially since "Vanilla Coke" doesn't always refer to the branded and marketed version. For example, in the movie Pulp Fiction Vincint Vega (John Travolta) orders a "vanilla Coke" at Jack Rabbit Slim's Resteraunt. And particularly people who were alive in the 50's remember vanilla coke being a menu item. Also my mom, who grew up in the Bronx and Manhatten, tells me that vanilla Coke was very regional to New York City in that decade, and still is available widely in that area. Maybe we could create a section called "Coca Cola with Vanilla Syrup", or "Origin" or something and put that info there. Then we could put everything pertaining to "Vanilla Coke" the brand in a section titled "Branded Version", noting that "in 2002 Coca Cola rolled out an official, vanilla-flavored version of its original soft drink product..." and then go on with the rest of what's on there 69.169.130.131 04:47, 6 November 2005 (UTC)Leo[reply]

That's actually exactly why I came to this article, yet didn't find any word on it. Your comment has made the whole thing much clearer to me, so thank you, and I agree that it should be added to the article in some form.--178.12.52.149 (talk) 14:53, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dating method[edit]

The description of Vanilla Coke's history makes extensive use of "Summer of..." and "Autumn of...". Please remember that the world has two hemispheres with opposing seasons. Can someone change this to show proper relative dates? --Scottie theNerd 14:54, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Quaque; that makes more sense now. --Scottie theNerd 16:13, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ingredients: 10g of sodium per 100ml?[edit]

This can't be true? April fools or smth? They don't sell it around here so I don't really know.

I fixed it, there is 0g of sodium: http://citizenship.coca-cola.co.uk/active_lifestyle/nutrition.asp?brand=cocacola

That was a typo. There are 10 mg (not grams) of sodium per 100 mL. The link you cite is correct in that, rounded to the nearest gram, there are zero grams. This article used to read 37.5 grams of sodium per 12 oz. Whoever wrote that meant 37.5 mg, which may be the correct amount, but I have a can of Vanilla Coke and it says there are 35 mg. The number on the can may be rounded off, but in any case I listed 35 mg of sodium in this article. Philbert2.71828 05:19, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vanilla Coke discontinued? Phased out by 2005?[edit]

I live in Ontario, Canada and I just bought a pack of vanilla coke two days ago at Price Chopper... (8 April 2006)

I'm rather jealous of you. :) Vanilla Coke definitly vanished by 2005 here in Ireland. Maeve 22:50, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I live in the USA. It's going here, but I can still think of two local places I can get it... for now. -Litefantastic 23:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
They've definitely stopped making it so you won't be able to get it after the expiration dates...I know it completely disappeared from vending machines and stores in Tampa Bay by the final week in January, '06. Mike H. That's hot 05:41, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm from Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada), and yeah its still being sold here. I don't think it was discontinued in the Canadian market! Insaneassassin247

I was in ASDA in Wembley today (in the UK) and there were still plenty of Diet Vanilla Cokes, though no Vanilla Cokes. And this is June, easily mid-2006 rather than early. BillyH 19:18, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When I was in Johannasburg and Swaziland this summer (2006) (their winter), I found Vanilla COKE! I was so excited! I have no idea why. Maybe they still distribute it to Africa, or all the extra stuff from the States was sent over there to sell. I dunno. Moonraker0022 01:51, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

it was gone by october where i live, luckily in alabama where i lived in its inaugural year we won 24 cases of it at a montgomery Wings game. i loved Vanilla Coke. Dappled Sage 22:57, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OMG They're discontinuing Black Cherry Vanilla! This means it may come back! Im sooooooooo excited! I emailed Coca-Cola to see what the deal was. I remember everyday after school, that nice cold Vanilla Coke... it was heaven in a bottle. Mom would surprise me and bring one home from the gas station... it was soooo good. I want it back! AquaStreak 02:32, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I miss Vanilla Coke and I live up in Massachusetts. Sucks that only New Zealand is getting the drink back. Coke better bring Vanilla Coke back to the US. 65.96.92.52 02:34, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can't get it in cans in the US, and I tried several places in Canada, including Calgary and Edmonton, and never found it there -- apparently, however, they are reintroducing it to the US. I agree, AquaStreak, Vanilla Coke was the greatest drink ever made. Black Cherry blew. 64.221.248.17 22:07, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's available in 600 mL (~20 FL OZ) bottles in New Zealand at dairies/superettes only, so it's pretty expensive here right now. Here's an image of the new bottles: http://coke.co.nz/assets/img/promostack/vanillacoke1.jpg Osmodius 02:19, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I want Vanilla Coke back. I loved it!!! I hope Coca-Cola brings it back to Canada in Ottawa. --Laisinteresting 21:45, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't purchased any, But when I go to walmart there are always 12 packs of vanilla coke. This is in pennsylvania but I am Not going to get any more specific of my location. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.31.70.98 (talk) 18:00, 5 February 2008 (UTC) It's been gone here since I was in 2nd Year of school so like 2005-2006..personally my favourite coke...although I hear Cherry Coke is amazing....WHICH OF COURSE THEY DON'T SELL IN IRELAND!! (Not like me to write as if I was in a forum, I apologize...just a once off...shows how angry I am) Nisior (talk) 20:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the first paragraph of this article talking about the history of being discontinued/reintroduced is misleading and possibly factually incorrect. I've heard many rumors about it being discontinued over the years, but they have proven to be false. It's just that some stores choose not to carry it. I just found some in my local King Soopers (Kroger) store today. Go to kingsoopers.com and search for "vanilla coke" to prove that they carry it. One nuance is that I've only been able to find it in 12-pack in my local area. Danheretic (talk) 22:37, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vanilla Coke is still alive and well in the USA - in 2021. On grocery shelves right now. (https://www.foodcity.com/product/233/0004900003124) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.171.231.26 (talk) 17:00, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I had a digital photo of a 2 liter bottle of vanilla coke Coke_Vanilla_2L.jpg . It was deleted at commons because of concerns over the coke logo. If we want it for the article I can upload it to en.wikipedia under fair-use. RJFJR 14:15, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vanilla Coke in Australia[edit]

Down here Vanilla Coke was released in 2002, by around early 2005 I noticed it had disappeared entirely. However now, as of May 2007, it's everywhere again. Is there any info on the web about this? Or is this just something that occured in my region of the country? 203.213.57.178 03:57, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well perhaps they discontinued it for awhile and brought it back, I see vanilla coke every time I buy soda at walmart. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.31.70.98 (talk) 18:03, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vanilla Coke in Switzerland[edit]

It is available in Switzerland. I do not know the re-launch time as I arrived recently, however, I drink it almost every day. Someone who knows the details should edit the page.

Vanilla Coke in Mexico[edit]

Though I have no exact dates, I DO know that Vanilla Coke was introduced in Mexico somewere around 2000 and then discontinued without further ado. Thought you guys might want to add that detail somewere...

Vanilla Coke in Canada[edit]

The article mentions that some corner stores in Ontario have vanilla coke now. I found some at one in Toronto last weekend (and nearly crapped my pants with excitement), and when I asked the guy behind the counter if it was coming back to Canada, he said he didn't know, but that they probably bought it from the states. I thought about that a bit as I was drinking one, and looking at the packaging it's pretty obvious that they did just import it from the states. Going to add that little bit to the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skootles (talkcontribs) 22:29, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cocaine & Vanilla[edit]

Interestingly ironic that this is done long after cocaine was a constituent ingredient in Coca-cola: seeing as cocaine metabolites bind in vivo with the vanillin of vanilla to create a more powerful stimulant drug called Methylvanillylecgonine. They still have trace amounts of cocaine in Red Bull Cola due to its coca leaf extract content. (reason for it being banned in Germany) perhaps a theoretical "Red Bull Vanilla Cola"? 74.209.54.156 (talk) 02:27, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Importing[edit]

This may be a strange enquiry for Wikipedia talk but can anyone tell me the precise procedure for importing the drink? To paint the picture, I live in the UK and am one of those who enjoyed Vanilla Coke when it was available and I lament its removal from the shelves. Now in order to privately purchase the drink, do I need to subscribe through the UK office for Coca-Cola or is it not even possible that way? Any help please. Vanilla Coke in Ireland[edit]

I live in Ireland and can confirm you can buy Vanilla coke there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.165.134.125 (talk) 20:57, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your IP address doesn't seem to suggest so? (Albeit it is nearby.) The thing is, on Wikipedia, reliable sources should be cited rather than personal observation, or original research. If you do find an actual source confirming it, and that it isn't imported, please add the source in as well. Thanks! DarkToonLinkHeyaah! 23:09, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This article, though sourced, is oddly wrong[edit]

This is going to sound very n00bish, but failing to have any evidence other than personal experience, please understand that I'm an experienced editor who understands WP:V, WP:RS, WP:NPOV, and WP:NOR. That said...

Coca-cola Vanilla (henceforth referred to as Vanilla Coke) was never discontinued in the US. I cannot cite this with a reliable source, only my own personal experience: I know the gentleman responsible for creating the vanilla flavor for Coca-Cola (he is a friend's dad) and he turned me onto it when it first came out. Since then, I have literally bought Vanilla Coke (be it 12-packs or 20 oz. bottles) nearly every week since I first tasted it. I love it and drink far too much of it. It has never not been available to me. In college (2003–2007), I bought three Tina's Pizza Burritos and a 20 oz. Vanilla Coke several times a week at the campus grocery store (this was in Connecticut). I bought a 12-pack in Virginia on my way to Bonnaroo in 2006. Since I left college, I've bought at least one 12-pack every week at New York Wegmans and Tops chains. A local Target also carries Vanilla Coke and has for many years. While I cannot provide any past photographic evidence of this, I can certainly provide a picture of the three six-packs sitting in my fridge right now or the empty cans in my garage. I don't know what else to say about this other than I can guarantee on my mother's life that it was never discontinued in the US.

I don't plan to do anything to the article until I receive comments regarding this concern. DKqwerty (talk) 19:48, 5 September 2013 (UTC) Striked minor text because I don't want to appear to have a conflict of interest: I haven't spoken to this friend or his father in many years.[reply]
