Untitled[edit]

The name should be "Thynn", although his father's was "Thynne". —Ashley Y 07:38, 2005 Jan 25 (UTC)

Discussion from a successful January 24 requested move

Move to article following naming convention. Note that an article has already been created at the destination, which will need to be merged in to the more detailed article. (Raised by anon on Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous).) Noisy | Talk 19:05, Jan 24, 2005 (UTC)

I'm just going to do this myself, no admin needed. —Ashley Y 08:11, 2005 Jan 25 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Pointless move. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 11:29, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
  • Support the move which has already been made, as it is apparently in accordance both with the standard of the peerage project and the way the man spells his own name. / up+land 12:30, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

What happened to the "e" at the end of his surname?[edit]

Shouldn't it be Alexander Thynne? john k

Never mind. john k 07:07, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

He dropped the "e" because he did not want the pronunciation to wind up rhyming with "pine" but prefers it to rhyme with "thin"

Pronunciation of Ceawlin[edit]

Ceawlin is not pronounced 'colin', it's pronounced 'see awe lynn'. I'm quite sure of this. I was at school with him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.183.134.209 (talk) 11:55, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Wifelets"[edit]

I seem to recall him talking about having "wifelets". Is this in any RS? --Dweller (talk) 11:07, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nesta Wyn-Ellis's 2010 book is a source on this question. See this review. El Ingles (talk) 16:00, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The article needs to cover this better. The first mention of "the wifelets" refers to their possible eviction, but the article does not detail to whom or what the term "wifelets" might refer. Yworo (talk) 17:13, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Death[edit]

@Cameron Scott: - His death is being reported on television by Sky News. Nothing on the website atm. Mjroots (talk) 11:30, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

His death is being reported on Longleat's social media, also it's saying he passed away on 04/04/20 in Bath - have tried to edit page to reflect this but my edits have been reverted back to saying he's alive — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hcvfd (talkcontribs) 11:32, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
He’s definitely dead, my sister works for Longleat and they’ve all just been sent an email. Obviously not useful as a reference, but just a heads up. Naihreloe (talk) 11:35, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Hcvfd: and Naihreloe - there is WP:NORUSH. WP:BLP is the overriding factor here. I've semi-protected the article for 24h to help prevent breaches. It might take a couple of hours to be able to reliably reference this, but that is not a big deal. Mjroots (talk) 11:36, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This is the tweet from the Longleat estate. Nothing yet on the website as far as I can tell. Mjroots (talk) 11:46, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 5 April 2020[edit]

I am wanting to edit this page since he has sadly died of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) as announced by Longleat safari. TheMcYeeter (talk) 12:15, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Now done. Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:26, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Source says he died after contracting it, not of it. DuncanHill (talk) 15:27, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We now have two extremely reliable sources, The Times and The Telegraph, that say he died of the virus. - SchroCat (talk) 22:35, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 5 April 2020[edit]

Alexander Thynn, 7th Marquess of Bath is no longer alive, please can this be changed? 81.97.254.2 (talk) 13:03, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks, this is already updated in the article. Govindaharihari (talk) 13:35, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Photograph[edit]

Is this him? I am very bad at recognizing faces. If it's him, I could ask the uploader to change the license so that the file can be transferred to the Commons. Surtsicna (talk) 22:41, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No. - SchroCat (talk) 22:43, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'll console myself that it at least looks a bit like him. But this is Bath, right? Though I am much less certain that this photographer will change the license. Surtsicna (talk) 23:05, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the second photo is Lord Bath. -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 14:05, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lady Bath[edit]

Is the link to her sufficient coverage of this, or does the fact of her previous career as a pornographic actress of considerable not merit mention, at least in passing, in this article? It seemed to have creates a small stir at the time. 2600:1004:B167:FE15:0:52:ECC9:2501 (talk) 23:41, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Source? Not to mention that seems to pertain to her own article, not Lord Bath's. -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 17:08, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
