thanks, I added it.

Alcalá[edit]

Is this a cognate of the Spanish placename Alcalá? --80.58.1.45 08:35, 15 April 2005

No. This is from Persian. There is an arabic word qalat or kalat (other variations) meaning fortress that may be a cognate of the Spanish placename Alcalá, I don't know. See for example its use in the name of Nimrod Fortress or Kalat al-Subeiba. --Bejnar 19:33, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

Since this is a article about the town, and not the district or the Khanate, shouldn't the material in the History section be about the town? Isn't all of this about the Khanate better put in the Kalat (princely state) article, with a simple link from here? --Bejnar 19:33, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Architecture[edit]

I understand that some of the architecture from the Khanate period is quite beautiful. Does any editor in Kalat have a camera? --Bejnar 19:33, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
