Mwaliyas overpower Ochobu for Rocball win

Mwaliyas step foot onto the Marianas High School Green Court with their game faces on and outplayed Ochobu en route to a lopsided 43-18 victory in Friday afternoon's continuation of the World Organized Rocball.

Mwaliyas played as hot as the heat from the torching sun and set the tone of things to come right from the start, breezing through the first set for a 13-4 win, with Donald Tagabuel pounding in three aces.

Not much of a fight was put up in the following set by Ochobu, as Tagabuel picked up where he left off and opened the second set with a goal.

Mwaliyas had everything going their way with Pete Iguel adding an ace and Darrel Roligat a kee to shut down Ochobu 13-0 for a comfortable 26-4 cushion.

Ochobu, however, remained determined and finally broke out of their cold spell by quickly turning the tables on their opponents, smacking away for an early lead on two aces by Ichnis Kapwich and a xunk by Dean Mathew.

While Mwaliyas struggled to convert on first serves, Ochobu danced ahead, doing it a single point at a time and eventually inched into Mwaliyas' lead by taking the set, 12-5. Mwaliyas still led by mile, though, as the teams headed into the final set of regulation.

Mwaliyas would not let Ochobu's charge last any longer and went back to its dominating ways, firing on all cylinders to close the match with an easy 12-2 win.

Not helping Ochobu's cause was the fact that they failed to convert on first serves, resulting in negative points for most parts of the set.

Roligat was the game's heavy hitter with two aces, a xunk, and three kees for 12 points, while Tagabuel's three aces and kee gave him 8 points.

Kapwich led Ochobu with 4 points off his two aces, while Mathew had 2 points on his xunk.

Rocball action continues throughout the week from 12:30pm to 1:10pm at the Green Court.

Rocball was created in 1979 and evolved into tournament-play a couple of years later.
