Fun little external link icon[edit]

If you have a browser that shows the external link icon () then you can set any IMDb links to show its own icon ()

Check out m:Help:User style for more info on CSS selectors.

Edit your "User:{your login}/monobook.css" (replace {your login} with your username) and add:

#bodyContent a[href *="imdb.com/"],
#bodyContent a[href *="imdb.co.uk/"] {
	background: url(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/53/IMDb_external.png) center right no-repeat;
	padding-right: 13px;
}

Do you see it here on this plain link?
or on this interwiki link?

Template-protected edit request on 8 June 2023[edit]

| find?q=&s=nm
+
| find?q={{urlencode:{{{ {{{2|{PAGENAMEBASE } }}} }}}&s=nm

on line 8. This makes the link target also changed by the name parameter for its usecase. Aaron Liu (talk) 19:48, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is it me? or is there one extra {that has not been closed with }? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 22:57, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct, that has been fixed. I confused the parameter with the magic word. Aaron Liu (talk) 23:06, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To editor Aaron Liu: now it looks like the . Editor Trappist the monk is correct. This needs to be tested thoroughly. Please reopen this request after successful testing has been performed. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 23:38, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would recommend against this change without there is some sort of testing that proves that it works. That is why we have ~/testcases pages; proper testing would have caught that error.
Trappist the monk (talk) 23:20, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice, I have now made fixed changes to the sandbox and results can be seen in Template:IMDb name/testcases. The only testcases that don't pass are where the new behavior takes effect, so I believe this is a success. Aaron Liu (talk) 00:19, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Paine Ellsworth @Trappist the monk Would you like to review this again? Aaron Liu (talk) 13:52, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
 Completed. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 15:59, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fix link to redirect at "IMDb name at IMDb" - IMDb links to IMDb (identifier) instead of IMDb. Eurohunter (talk) 16:24, 12 June 2023 (UTC) Eurohunter (talk) 16:24, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. The purpose of IMDb (identifier) in this template is to prevent this template, used in ~152,000 articles from contaminating Special:WhatLinksHere/IMDb. Similar redirects exist for |isbn=, |pmc=, |doi=, etc parameters in cs1|2 templates (and the matching ISBN, PMC, DOI, etc templates).
Trappist the monk (talk) 16:55, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Another editor inappropriately changed IMDb to IMDb. I have restored the redirect.
