Can you give details of the copyright status of the image of Suzy Parker you recently uploaded? Unfortunately Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material unless specific permission has been given to release it under the GFDL under which the Wikipedia content is distributed. Public domain material of course is fine.

If you place information on [[Image:Sp-t05.jpg]], it would put our minds at ease about the issue.

Hi, Michael -- Despite my numerous changes I like the Trench coat article. If you don't like what I did to your opening sentence I won't fight if you restore it. Maybe the encyclopedia needs some breezier writing. The subject of the article should be bolded in the first sentence, though. I also put a redirect page at Trenchcoat. That particular article is being deleted in accordance with point 4 on the list of "Candidates for speedy deletion" of the Wikipedia:Deletion policy. I suggest you move the current Ellen Bry article to User:Michael Reiter/Ellen Bry and work on it there until it's up to stub quality, at which time you can move it back. Re: Jamthund article

I just wanted to let you know that I edited your recent changes to the Jämthund images. Since wikipedia articles don't have authors as such--just many contributors--it's not really appropriate to refer to "the author". Also, descriptions of images in articles should generally talk about the image as it relates to the article. Hence none of the dog photos *in the articles* give the owners' names, dogs' names, and so on. But of course if anyone clicks on an image, they get the bigger version *and* the detailed description of the particular photo, as in Image:JamthundA.JPG or Image:BedlingtonTerriers_wb.jpg.

Given all that, I'm so sorry for the apparently recent loss of your friend. It is so hard to lose a dog. I lost my favorite last year, very suddenly, to an aggressive cancer (hemangiosarcoma), and even having 2 other dogs around, there's still a huge painful hole left by his absence. Re: German Shepherd Dog article

Michael,

There is already a link to the List of fictional dogs on the German Shepherd Dog page. That list includes Ace The Bat-hound. There are lots of famous fictional GSDs. I don't think we want to duplicate large portions of that list on the GSD page. If you don't think it is sufficient to rely on the list of fictional dogs, how about creating a page with a List of fictional German Shepherd Dogs, which would also include Ace? It would be challenging to keep the GSD only list up-to-date with respect to the all dogs list. I understand from Elf that this has been done on other dog breed pages. If you don't think this is acceptable, would you please go to Talk:German Shepherd Dog and explain why Ace is so exceptional that he needs to be linked directly from the GSD page. Thanks. Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. You mentioned that you'd like to take advantage of multi-licensing. It's pretty simple, and the simplest way is to copy and paste the following into your user page (or User:Michael Reiter/Copyright): "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}". I used Adobe Photoshop CS2 to edit the 'Martin Landau, Barbara Bain ...' image. The picture should look better on most monitors, but if you don't like what I've done to your image then you can go back to the original one by clicking on the '(rev)' radio-button, which will revert to the previous (i.e., your original) upload. Hi again Michael. Glad you liked the altered image. You can download a free trial copy of Photoshop CS2 from the Adobe website here: Adobe Photoshop CS2 but it's an expensive (professional) program so if you don't feel like paying so much for something that you won't be using a lot then Adobe do a cut-down (but still very good) home version called Photoshop Elements (here: Photoshop Elements) which is a lot cheaper and may well do everthing that you need.

BTW, You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. it 'signs' your name (like mine below) and using four adds the date so that people know when you left them the message and provides a link back to you.

German Shepherd/Cat photo

"getting the bum's rush" (a) means nothing to probably a large portion of the encyclopedia's readers--it's a colloquialism and not necessarily a widely spread one, and (b) adds nothing at all to the understanding of the German Shepherd breed. The comment just doesn't belong in the caption in the article.It can be on the image's description page all you want, because that page is about the image, but I don't see how it adds value--and in fact confuses the issue--on the GSD page. Known source

When you set a tag like {{promophoto}} you are asserting that the source of the image is known, not just to you, but to Wikipedia as a whole. This is not the case in the images that you have recently added this tag to. Can you, please, cite the URL or other source from which you got those images? It's actually strong Wikipedia policy that all images must have source attribution. Thank you. -Harmil 04:14, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

I do imagine that it will be deleted, though. Recent image edits

We've discussed this before, but clearly it needs to be said again: I request that you review your recent image edits, and where the template that you are using suggests that a source is known, please list the source. Image sourcing is becoming an increasingly important topic on Wikipedia, and I can guarantee that any image that you do not source will be deleted at some point in the future (not by me) unless its source is painfully obvious, and even then there is substantial question around the legality of assumiung the source of the image.

If you are uploading / editing images because you want them to remain on Wikipedia, list the URLs, photographers, artists, scanned source material or whatever other information you can come up with for the source of the images. If you do not, you are acting in direct violation of Wikipedia policy, and there's very little chance that your work will remain. -Harmil 13:28, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

No source tag removal

Please do not remove the "nosource" image tag from any image unlesss the source for the image has been identified. Proper identification of the source would ordinarily consist of the name and address of the photographer or copyright holder and the approximate date the photograph was taken. Safari jacket

The consensus was (by others, not me) that there was weak fair use justification (See attached discussion) to keep the images and a free replacement could easily be made (although no one has stepped up to create one). Whats the point of ifd if the images dont get deleted. As has been pointed out a free image would take someone no time to make, the fair use justification is dubious in the extreme, why do we have to go through PUI? Yes, I am an admin., but you don't really need one; you just need to vote to keep the image (at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2005 October 31). You and SoM seem to have managed a series of escalating misunderstandings, in which you each thought the other was being abusive; it's clear, though, that neither of you was. Just write it in the image description page. But that does not solve the issue of how you can claim their copyrights passed into the public domain. Some other company may have bought their intellectual property when Eaton folded -Nv8200p talk 17:27, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

I think you are misunderstanding how copyright laws work. Take a look at Public_domain#Expiration. Unless the work was published before 1923 or the author has been dead for 70 years, the work is not in public domain in the United States. Again, for your convenience the link is Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/copyright#Images which cannot be "fair use". Please note this derives from an over all policy/guideline with clarifications for comic book articles.

As for a better idea. While keeping in mind Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/editorial guidelines#Superhero box images, look through the comics, including covers, where the character appeared in the story. There should be a number of good candidate images there for both the "classic" and Major Victory costumes. We always thought that she was a shepard part wolf until I met a breeder and informed us that she might be related to another breed but diffenitly not shepard or wolf.
