Succession[edit]

Is it really plausible that Cummings would run against Mfume? I mean, even Wynn wouldn't challenge Mfume, and he's in a very different political position from him. Cummings is Mfume's successor - they have exactly the same base of support. john k 21:04, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

It is "possible", not set in stone. We shall see. --tomf688 (talk) 21:59, Mar 18, 2005 (UTC)

Infoboxes[edit]

It is important to state the current state of events, not what will happen soon. As such, the Senator is still in office, and has not been succeeded yet. Stealthound 20:57, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please consult this source before changing the "Succeeded by" sections of the article. This is the official position of wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, predicting what will happen in the future. As the Senator is still in office, the article should be left as it is. Sarbanes' parents village/town...[edit]

If anyone can find the exact village or town where Sarbanes' parents came from that would be a lot better than just naming the province in Greece- the more specific the better. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.121.247.116 (talk) 20:13, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Electoral History[edit]

It seems highly suspicious that, in all of the elections Paul Sarbanes participated in, he and the Republican always combined for exactly 100% of the vote. Surely there were third party candidates or an appreciable number of write-ins at least once in that multi-decade career of his. Can anyone verify the numbers in this article, or correct them to reflect the actual percentages? 68.33.37.127 (talk) 15:57, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Name in Greek[edit]

In the 1990's I worked a lot with Senator Sarbanes. I also knew his chief of staff Pete Marudas very well. I am Greek Ameircan and can state for a fact that Paul and Peter both celebrated their nameday of Panayiote, and that that is their name in Greek. And indeed they both joked about being "peter" and "Paul" in English despite actually having been name Panayiote. Here in the states, boys named Panayiote either take as a nickname or are given as a legal name, Peter or Paul. But this definitely does not backwards revise their Greek names to Petros or Pavlos.

I know this because my Greek name, my baptism name, the name of my grandfather is Paraskevas, but my legal name in English given my parents is Peter and on my birth certificate is Peter. This does not through some reverse process change my Greek name to Πέτρος/Petros.72.75.10.224 (talk) 16:07, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Romanian origin?[edit]

The family name Sarbanes could have perhaps Romanian origin from Sarbanescu.--Deguef (talk) 18:48, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
