Don't merge - create a topic called Information system lifecycle management[edit]

The author is speaking about the information lifecycle management; we have to distinguish what the information system is from how do we use and manage an information system. Thank You. This whole page needs a do-over[edit]

An information system (IS) is an arrangement of information technology aimed at solving problems, leveraging opportunities or addressing directives. The discipline that deals with information systems, academically and professionally, is called information systems. The two entries should not be merged any more than "Accounting" and "general ledger account" or "Marketing" and "consumer products market" would be merged.

As for the mathematical set theory references, maybe there needs to be a disambiguation page? Most readers looking up "information system" are expecting to see a description of what organizations use on a daily basis. The set theory allusion? Not so much, I think.

The security stuff simply does not belong here. What a single author uses to define an IS in an the context of security might belong on an IS security page, but not here. When I get time I'll come back and make some of these changes, unless someone comes up with some good reasons not to do so. Tee Owe 14:29, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge history[edit]

This article was merged to information systems on 30 June 2007 and then split off again on 21 October 2009, when information systems was renamed information systems discipline. We now have the ridiculous situation where two articles start with the same sentence, a sentence which does not define either topic. Nurg (talk) 06:22, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Components of an IS[edit]

Hey, people. I am currently studying IT and in my IS class, we're taught that IS has five components, namely : Hardware, Software, People, Communication, and Procedures and Protocol. If I can summarize the information from my text-book, would I be allowed to post it here? Also, can somebody give me the format of a book citation for Wikipedia?
