Hi, I'm Portuguese and I would like someone here to explain me why Madredeus is fado with some other influences?? It has barely nothing to do with fado, at least not more than with other Portuguese folk music for that matter. It is much more like crossing of Medieval themes with New Age Music. Can someone correct the Fado-crap? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.123.129.86 (talk) 19:46, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Even the band acknowledge they have been influenced by fado (source: "Magalhaes is willing to concede the affinity between fado and Madredeus. But only with the proviso that Madredeus explores those feelings in its own way, without singing the old songs in the old styles"), it is wrong to say fado has nothing to do with their music. It's different from saying that their music is fado. 77.206.169.95 (talk) 06:50, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'd really appreciate if someone could fix grammar bits (they had been searching.. or they have been searching; they released or they had released). Also, "Madredeus" is not pronounced as its written.. I know for certain that the last bit is pronounced as "sh", but am not sure about the rest of it, and I don't know how to write about this in an article :\ - Jashiin

Errm, it's a Portuguese name, hence, it's pronounced exactly the way it's written...Zeppocity 14:24, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Mas não em inglês! (But not in English!) Nelson Ricardo 05:39, September 10, 2005 (UTC)
Well, yes, but then I'm sure there are loads of articles on foreign personalities and somesuch where people don't really bother to spell it out, non? I think it really comes down to that; readers know it's Portuguese, Portuguese isn't read in the same way as English... does Wiki really always make sure that they get to know HOW it's read? Just doesn't really seem that significant to me. Zeppocity 16:09, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The origin of the name is slightly innacurate. Previous reading had it that they practiced in an abbey named Madre Deus, the truth is a little (but significantly) more complex.

so what is the origin of the name ? why is it so complex ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Babamgeliyor (talkcontribs) 22:16, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Madre de Deus never was a subway or train station. It's the name of the church were they practiced and the wood near the same church. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.205.84.226 (talk) 15:08, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Madredeus.jpg[edit]

Image:Madredeus.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Band no longer active[edit]

In 2008, when Teresa Salgueiros left the band they didn't went on seperate ways, Salgueiros started a project of her own while the band owner (Pedro Ayres Magalhães) went on helping other bands and managing what's left of the band assets and started the project with Banda Cosmica. As of 2008 Madredeus per se was no more. Jorge Serra —Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.83.30.149 (talk) 16:06, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
