About me[edit]

I'm 40 years old and live in the USA, where I am a computational neuroscientist by training and, currently, a software developer by vocation. I was once a linguist.

Wikipedia and I[edit]

I edited under various IPs (see Unattributed edits, below) for a while before finally getting around to creating a user. I used to forget to log in occasionally, but am now trying to make sure this doesn't happen by using cookies. Some, but not all, of my otherwise unattributed edits can be found at addresses given below. Nowadays I've gotten out of the habit of logging in, unfortunately, so most of my edits are unattributed these days.

I edit from my home, from my workplace, and from my handheld.

Wikipedia is basically the fulfillment of a recurring dream I have had since childhood: collaboratively categorizing the world's knowledge. (When I was a kid in the 1980s I cut my programming teeth writing hierarchically-structured BBS's with that explicit goal; of course, with only a few users and a 120K floppy to store the database, the result was significantly less impressive than Wikipedia :-)

My main regret is that I don't have time to become more deeply involved with Wikipedia and its allied projects; I have no doubt if I were 20 today I would be devoting my life to it. Instead, I have to be satisfied with the occasional edit here and there.

Quite simply, I think Wikipedia is one of the most wonderful things ever to have been created by humankind, and will end up being as transformative as the Internet itself.

User categorization[edit]

I have taken Adam78's advice and categorized myself as a Wikipedian [who lives] in [or is associated with] Hungary because I have lived in Hungary in the past, own a house there, speak Hungarian, and am interested in many Hungarian topics. I am not, however, in Hungary at the moment.

Unattributed edits[edit]

A number of edits made by me when I (inadvertently) wasn't logged in can be found at:

This list is not exhaustive, consisting as it does of static IP addresses that I frequented; I also made edits from dynamic addresses, but have lost track of these.

...

Update 2009: in the past few years, I've had the bad habit of not logging in, so the vast majority of my edits have been unattributed. So be it; I'm not going to try to gather all the IP addresses I've edited from.
