Usage of Nanyang in Singapore[edit]

Why is there an entry for "Nanyang Division of the Hong Kah Group Representative Constituency in Singapore"? Also, is it neccesary to list every institution or building with the name of Nanyang, since the page name would not be direct conflicts?--Huaiwei 15:21, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation pages are for people to locate information. — Instantnood 15:30, May 1, 2005 (UTC)
Please read Wikipedia:Disambiguation carefully to understand what they are for. This is not the first time you are taking a disembiguation page beyond its primary purpose. Also, you still haven explained that Nanyang division entry.--Huaiwei 15:36, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks anyway. You're more an expert than I am in Singapore-related topics. :-D — Instantnood 16:01, May 1, 2005 (UTC)

What does Nanyang stand for (especially when used for names of places in Singapore?) The german wikipedia says that it is an old name for South East Asia. Is that true? --137.132.3.12 (talk) 09:09, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is. If you look at the map of South East Asia and you will see that South China Sea dissects into the middle of this region, hence the term "Nanyang" which literally means South Sea (South = Nan, Sea = Yang). Hope this helps. By the way, please register yourself with wikipedia to avoid being blocked, this is directed at the person who asked the above question as your IP address (137.132.3.12/talk) is currently being monitored for vandalism and it might be block for up to one year this time since it has incurred more than 3 strikes on wikipedia already. The worst case scenario is an indefinite BAN if any other users from this IP address were to make any remarks which are degrading, obscene, unfounded or vulgar.
