According to yet more 'local' history, a sort of 'official' history, the first postmaster was from Wisconsin and his daughter wanted to name the area after a lake she knew in that state. The lake's name was Aloah. In submitting the name to the USPS, somewhere along the line the name Aloah was replaced by Aloha. That is why, albeit it is spelled 'Aloha', it is spoken Alo-ah' by all of us who live here. Just a couple other localisms if you visit Portland, Couch Street is 'Cooch' and Willamette is not Willa-met as so many midwesterners discover, but Willam-et. Name

I was told I think by my Grandpa who has lived in Aloha for a very long time that the reason it is called "A-low-wa" is because it was the name of a village of the Tualitin indians. There are many places that are the same as or similar to the Native American originals so this doesn't sound far fetched to me. According to Univ. of Oregon: the Kalapuyans The Grand Ronde Reservation is where Kalapuya indians including Tualitin indians would have most likely relocated. Since there is debate even in the article about where the name came from it seems important to try to find out. Pacific_University seems like a good place to try since it was originally a school for Native Americans predating the state of Oregon, and the city of Aloha. The Washington county museum, and Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon both seem like good places to find information about what communities existed before white settlers came to the region.

Inaccurate

Merger Proposal

I propose that Aloha Community Library be merged into Aloha, Oregon. I think that the content in the Library article can easily be explained in the context of Aloha, and the Aloha article is of a reasonable size that the merging of the Library will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. The Washington County Cooperative Library System includes 14 libraries (and 17 branches). Of these, only one (Hillsboro Public Library) has a stand-alone article; six have a brief mention and/or pic in the article about the city or community, and the other seven don't have even a passing mention in Wikipedia. If even half of the Library content were merged into the Aloha article, the ACL would have the 2nd largest wikipedia coverage of any library in Washington County -- pretty good for the newest kid on the block that doesn't even belong to the Washington County Cooperative Library Service yet! Comment: All that you say is basically true. However, merging is an alternative to deletion, so the first question really is does the topic of the article pass the WP:GNG. The library has received a fair amount of press, though I don't know if it would be enough to pass. Secondly, given what I have heard about it, the article could easily be expanded, which is what happened with the Multnomah County Library articles last month when there was a similar merger/deletion proposal. As to the other libraries in the county, many more should have articles, they just do not. Cornelius' library just celebrated 100 years, the Beaverton one I'm sure received lots of press when the new building was built (as did the Murryhill location), ditto with Tigard and Tualatin. I wrote the article for the Wilsonville Public Library, and each of those cities is older and larger. It's just a matter of doing the research. My personal long-term plans are to write articles for the Hillsboro Carnegie branch, Shute Park Branch, and Pacific's current and old Carnegie libraries, but I'm only one person. Well put. I started down the merge proposal route before I saw what's going on in MCL. I'm not sure Aloha Community Library will meet WP:GNG -- the brief announcement of its opening and the organization's web site don't seem to add up to sufficient WP:RS to prevent deletion, so I was trying to sidestep that issue by proposing a merger instead. But I suppose Gen. Robert would rule that the first issue be dealt with before introducing a second one. Given the collection of sources added (article still needs a lot of help), I think it would squeak by the GNG. With your note at WPORE, perhaps the article will be improved, and hopefully the author will stick around and get the hang of editing. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:08, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

What about Loren Parks?

He was a notable resident of Aloha, started his own business, and was very prominent in his political influences. He moved to Nevada, but still made an impact on modern Aloha.

Why not add him?
