A subway sandwich is a type of sandwich. Subway Sandwich is the name of one particular chain which makes subway sandwiches. -- Zoe

Er, don't they make submarine sandwiches? --Brion

Yes, but so do thousands of other companies. I'm re-removing the redirect. -- Zoe

Zoe, can you provide a citation of "subway sandwich" that does not relate to this particular brand name, which according to their own website[1] makes "submarine" sandwiches, not a generic thing called "subway" sandwiches? I can't think of such a usage, and a quick google search didn't turn up anything obvious. If such a usage does exists, I suspect it is akin to "kleenex", "hoover", and "xerox" -- a brand name which has become somewhat genericized in usage (at least in some areas) due to the prevalence of one brand in a market. --Brion

Oy. Brain lock. You're right, Brion, for some reason, I was seeing "subway" and thinking "submarine". Mea culpa. I'll fix it. -- Zoe

Okay, thanks. I was beginning to fear for your sanity. Or mine. :) --Brion
