Welcome to Wikipedia! In case you haven't already found them, some useful links are Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers, Wikipedia:Naming conventions, Wikipedia:Manual of Style, and Wikipedia:The perfect article. Most questions are answered at Wikipedia:Help; if you have a question not answered there, then you can post it to the Village pump.

A word of warning: when comments are posted, the raw text appears without vocal inflections or body language; the lack of these nonverbal cues tends to make the raw text appear to be more terse/rude than the sender actually intended. This is stating the obvious, but people seem to forget it in the heat of the moment. So my word of warning is this: don't be surprised if someone makes comments to you that seem unnecessarily brusque; and try not to take it personally. It is a side-effect of the medium.

Hi Hellboy1975, there are a few Wikipedia conventions you should be made aware of. Please review the Wikipedia:Manual of Style, and also check out the changes that I made to David Wm. Sims and Malcolm Blight. Cheers, Cyan 00:55, 2 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Hey, this is cassius from the Tool Army. Good to know more of us are involved here. I once considered posting about wikipedia on the TA main but am still debating about how that would go over. Peace. --Cassius987 18:30, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

soulseek[edit]

Hiya. Ive just created a new (and better, imo) userbox for soulseek and i thought is share it. you can look at it here. this new box allows you to share your soulseek username in the box itself. also, it adds your userpage to a category called "soulseek users". if you dont like the box but you want to be in the catergory just add [[Category: Soulseek users]]. anyhoo, just thought id let you know. -(chubbstar)talk | contrib | 06:20, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Undertone (band), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, article #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Elomis 08:52, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Caves[edit]

Hope you agree - its one of those things that I think than should be careffully indicated that we are not listing things that makes them vulnerable to vandalism - we have had discussions in the wa project about this...SatuSuro 00:11, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that posting cave locations is a bad idea, but I personally don't agree that posting a list of caves is necessarily bad. Protecting caves from vandalism is best achieved by proper management, not denial of their existence. hellboy 00:17, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Very good point - one problem with vandalism in some locations in australia - govt depts or organisations would be hard pressed to keep a watch or lock out on some isolated locations - hence fossil theft from locations visisted only a couple of times ayear on some cases... so it goes...SatuSuro 00:21, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Big Day Out[edit]

Please stop re-inserting Bjork. Bjork is not the reason the Big Day Out tickets sold out so quickly. Whether or not you or I like her is irrelevant. Simple searches on Google easily reveal that Rage Against the Machine were the main reason BDO tickets sold out so quickly. I mean, be honest, Bjork is not a well known artists in Australia, and of those who know her, a lot don't like the music. Insisting on keeping Bjork in that sentence is a joke, and seems like nothing more than a POV-pushing attempt at heightening her profile. I will continue to remove Bjork from this statement, as it is clearly false. 121.223.87.143 (talk) 11:33, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As if playing at the Opera house means your well known - lot's of people perform there and no ones heard of them. Just because a sentence has existed on an article for ages, does not mean it cannot be removed - especially if it makes such a ridiculous claim. There is not one person on this planet who believe BDO tickets would have sold out so fast has RATM not been playing. I will keep removing Bjork, as it's blatantly false. 121.223.87.143 (talk) 00:08, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're completely missing the point. This has nothing to do with Bjork, and everything to do with the fact you're not citing a source to justify the "ridiculous claim". What's more ridiculous is claiming that only one band is responsible for selling out the BDO's. Do you think that if RATM playing in a stadium with a capacity of 55,000 it would sell out? RATM are a great band, but they're not that popular... hellboy (talk) 00:19, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Tool Newsletter

Danny Carey was the Collaboration of the Month (for a couple months) but that didn't really go anywhere. Pomte made a good point here that I didn't see until just now.
So, the current CotM is Lateralus. I hope everyone can get motivated to contribute to this article; striving for GA, maybe even FA. If you need some inspiration, go listen to the album! :D Thanks everyone. And welcome to our new members!

Travis Bean article[edit]

Hi,

I see that you briefly discussed the deletion of the Travis Bean article with User_talk:Fastily. I agree that this article should not have been deleted so quickly and without discussion, particularly given that you apparently put a hangon tag on the article. I've suggested several directions for this to go on Fastily's page - (1)restore and I'll fix the language, (2)restore and take it to Articles for Deletion for a full discussion, or (3)Fastily does not restore the article and I take it to Wikipedia:Deletion review. If you have thoughts on this, let me know either here or on my talk page. Dialectric (talk) 23:29, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help Dialectric. I've been unwittingly dragged into this revert-war on the Travis Bean page, and the last thing I wanted was for it to be deleted at all, especially so quickly and without chance for discussion. Perhaps the page isn't perfect, but I feel it is notable enough to be included and deletion seems to be an excessively harsh move in my opinion. hellboy (talk) 00:41, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you put a Template:Hangon tag on the article, the article should not have been deleted without discussion, though the tag is apparently non-binding. Hopefully the article will be restored by Fastily (or another admin), and these issues will be sorted out in an articles for deletion discussion. I'm not totally sure what sourcing was used in the article, but quality of sources will definitely come up in the afd, so any magazine articles or book references on travis beans will be useful. Dialectric (talk) 00:53, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Travis Bean[edit]

Dear Hellboy1975,

I hope you don't mind me adding my opinion regarding this subject? I apologize in advance if you do but I feel that it is important to add logic to this Travis Bean discussion: there should be a distinction between the vintage Travis Bean guitars and the newer, German made guitars. I'd like to have an open exchange to discussion our Wikipendia options, if that is possible?

Best,

1uncertain3 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 1uncertain3 (talkcontribs) 18:21, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible to have a conversation about this, but the Travis Bean discussion page is a much more appropriate location for it. hellboy (talk) 13:52, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Travis Bean for deletion[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Travis Bean, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Travis Bean until a concensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. -FASTILYsock(TALK) 19:46, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Adelaide Wikipedia Users Group meetings[edit]

Hi, in case you're not already aware of it, a group of Adelaide Wikipedians has been meeting on a monthly basis since April, with the aim of improving the scope and quality of articles on South Australian topics. We meet at UniSA's City West campus, and our 23 July meeting will have a guest speaker from the National Trust of SA.

This coming Sunday, 6 July, we will be holding our first Edit-a-thon. This will be an opportunity for new editors to come and learn either basic or more advanced editing from very experienced wikipedians, so if you know anyone who would like to get some practice, please let them know - and beginners will be very welcome. Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 04:59, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
