Joachim Sauer[edit]

I removed him from the list, as he is the husband of Germany's federal chancellor, and not the country's president. TRBlom 20:07, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speculative[edit]

This article should have already been merged into First Lady as discussed in Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/First Gentleman or simply deleted, which is my preferred option. My take on it is that it is an unreferenced randomly coined neologism, obviously derived from the U.S. term "First Lady" and is simply being haphazardly and inappropriately applied to male spouses in any situation that happens to include a married female head of state, as if it actually was an officially derived "title" of some sort. Wikipedia isn't a venue for promoting new terms or titles, in my opinion this articles sole purpose is simply an attempt at garnering support for the idea of using "First Gentleman" as a title and thus has no place in the encyclopedia. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 16:30, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed all non-U.S. derived unreferenced claims that applied "First Gentleman" in the context of it being used as a "title" for male spouses of female heads of government. In my opinion, the term may be an appropriate entry in a new American neologism dictionary, but I seriously doubt it's ready to be included in Wikipedia outside the context of a mention in the First Lady article, where I believe this article should be merged. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 21:03, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand why you reverted my expansion. Michigan's governor's husband, for example has his own "First Gentleman" page on the official state Website. Qqqqqq (talk) 17:40, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should be merged with "First Lady" article as already decided by consensus[edit]

Quite a while ago, it was decided by consensus that this article should be merged into First Lady after a discussion regarding whether or not it should simply be deleted occurred.[1] Considering that the term "First Gentleman" itself appears to be little more than a spontaneously coined neologism, this position still appears to be reasonable. Any information already contained here should be added to a section within the First Lady article, provided that it can be properly referenced. Continuing to add further entries here, without proper referencing, by simply extrapolating the idea that any male married to a female leader is automatically called a "First Gentleman" is arbitrary and in my opinion doesn't belong in the encyclopedia. Wikipedia isn't about boosting the usage of someone's favorite coined expression, no matter how potentially useful it is. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 17:40, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Then why not merge? Qqqqqq (talk) 17:49, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
