Hi! Yes, this is indeed much better than the previous effort, which was apparently contrived by each editor adding their own paragraph to the introduction and then extending the lists in the main “article” ;-). Just noticed your interest in filesystem...it's not wiki style, but I think this is both more complete and more understandable. Perhaps we could figure out how to integrate it and make it encyclopedic. This article obviously suffers from the multiple writer syndrome. It feels like each paragraph was written by a different author with no attempt to organize it or integrate it. I think it really needs a total rewrite. I've started by fixing (IMHO) the intro, and I've written an outline (offline) that I'll use to slowly restructure it. I need to sleep on it, but I think I'll next add a history section (past, present, future) incorporating most of my e2 article above in a slightly different form, and then start deleting overlap from the rest of the article, and then try to make the rest fit the outline I've got. Anyway, at least it's a plan. I didn't mean to imply before you should integrate all that.  :) --ssd 06:49, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Well, and I will move it back, because [1] gives several more meanings for this word. Even if the disambiguation page for "Transition" point out these meanings, you can be certain that links will appear to this one day which have nothing whatever to do with transgender people. Snowspinner already complained about the "exclusive" usage of Transitioning; even if his comments are not exactly unbiased, I see no reason to have a questionable name for an article when this can be solved so easily. -- AlexR 11:53, 30 Jun 2004 (UTC)

homeomorphism

It looks like a comprehensible sentence now. But I really wonder if the word homomorphism should have been used instead of homeomorphism? Using homeomorphism does not make sense to me. Usually (besides the fact that the concept of homeomorhpism, as that word is usually used, is topological) a homeomorphism is a morphism in both directions, whereas a homomorphism is a morphism in only one direction. Assuming I have understood what you are saying correctly: if graph G₁ is homeomorphic to graph G₂, so should G₂ be homeomorphic to G₁ since for G₁ to be homeomorphic to G₂ there must exist a graph H from which each can be gotten from a number of edge subdivisions. There is no restriction on which edges you can subdivide. Change the indices - nothing else should change as a result. Dysprosia 04:03, 3 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Hello. Your assumption that medical ethics consist only of moral duties to a physician's own patients deserves to be reexamined. Indeed, I suspect that is such a narrow conception of a physician's ethical duties that it invites the kind of ethical lapses that codes of ethics are normally devised to prevent. Consider for example the ethical obligations that physicians assume when they make policy recommendations concerning public health measures. Surely they fail in their ethical obligations if they consider only their patients in issues involving preventing the spread of communicable disease. By analogy, we would not argue that an attorney has ethical obligations only to clients and not to the legal system as a whole because that would undermine justice. By analogy, we would not argue that an accountant has ethical obligations only to corporate management and no ethical obligations to corporate shareholders. Codes of professional ethics ought to be understood as general moral guidance rather than as a sets of "don't get caught doing this because it looks bad to the public" rules. All ethics are universal if they are anything at all, and merely find their expression in specific circumstances.

Is there something different or remarkable about Congressman Gingrey's public support for whatever is happening (and we still do not know enough) in Guantanamo? He is both a physician and a politician; he has two social roles, one of which comes complete with a code of ethics. While intelligent or sophisticated consumers of news might deduce the inherent contradiction, we cannot and should not assume that most users of Wikipedia are intelligent or sophisticated consumers of news. A pity but realistic.

Functional equation

I replaced your example of a functional equation with a different one for reasons stated in my summary. But besides the example, the words "... which has one solution" appear to mean it has only one solution, which is obviously extremely far from the truth in this case.
