This seems rather pointless to me. There are hundreds of european countries that no longer exist, and I fail to see why anyone would want to look up a list of them. Sandman 19:38, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Should we add the Ottoman Empire to this, even though it is currently the Republic of Turkey? Vancouverguy 19:43, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Should Yugoslavia (now Serbia-Montengro) be inculuded in this list? I don't think the country exists anymore legally. Vancouverguy 21:37, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

It was listed twice. I think one time is enough. --Wik 21:43, Aug 30, 2003 (UTC)

Oops! I didn't see that. Vancouverguy 21:43, 30 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Overlaps with list of extinct countries, empires, etc.. Potential inconsistency in maintenance. Proposal: merge to the latter one, for better time/space perspective onto the world history. Not to say that some empires spread over continents. Mikkalai 23:19, 3 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Are you counting Sparta? The Huns, Visigoths, Ostrogoths? Castille, Bohemia, Hapsburg Empire? How far back do you wanna go? I suggest to come up with definition for inclusion, otherwise this will become a weird list... Perhaps the rise of nation states is a good starting point? --Humus sapiens 00:56, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
