things related to Virginia's railroads[edit]

I have been doing a lot of research and some article work on things related to Virginia's railroads.

1. some older railroads don't seem to have AAR symbols and/or logos 2. project would benefit for a consistent way of indication of progression/succession to current major US railroads 3. individuals are becoming identified, some rather obscure

I want my work to fit in properly, and would appreciate some guidance, and help so I can concentrate my work on content. The following are suggestions/problems for the coordinator for Wikiproject Trains. I do not have a problem with eliminating some which may be considered inappropriate for the project or WP.

Chicago 'L' Infobox improvements[edit]

I'd like to see more line-specific headings on infoboxes for Chicago's elevated lines. I just tried to make one for a Red Line station, and it didn't work. ---- DanTD 22:20, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Steam locomotive weight[edit]

I put this post in the Template talk page last September, but have had no reply. If none materialises I shall just correct the error whenever I come across it. — "I find in some steam locomotive articles that the definition of "weight" as "The locomotive's total weight" is a source of confusion. In some cases this has been taken to mean the total weight of the locomotive and tender (already covered by the template "locotenderweight" - the combined locomotive and tender total weight). If I have understood right, "weight" stands for the weight of the locomotive (power unit) alone, presumably in working order. This is a far more useful criterion if we remember that a locomotive can be attached to several different tenders in the course of its career. For instance giving the loco+tender weight for French locomotives would be particularly meaningless as locomotives and tenders were maintained by separate services and had more or less independent careers."--John of Paris 18:19, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History of rail transport in Ireland[edit]

An editor tagged several section of History of rail transport in Ireland as POV and today deleted them all citing lack of sources, not POV. Unfortunately I don't have any of my Irish railway books assessable, so cannot help, but maybe someone where can have a look and assist. Most of what was deleted is factual, perhaps not that well written and possibly with a POV slant but not total POV and certainly salvageable and, I am sure, can be sourced. "Northern Railroad"[edit]

In Ogdensburgh and Lake Champlain Railroad, we have "The Ogdensburg & Lake Champlain Railroad was founded in 1849 as the Northern Railroad running from Ogdensburg, NY to Rouses Point, NY".

Then there's the Northern Railroad of New York, "incorporated on May 14, 1845." Anyone care to reconcile these? dab, perhaps? -- Mwanner | Talk 13:50, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Station backlog on unassessed articles page[edit]

Why are there so many articles about obscure railway/metro station and nothing else on the unassessed list? I tried to assess some of these articles so there is not an embarrassing 12k on the list, but 99% of them are just one line stubs about train stations. Can anything be done to reduce the workload, or will editors still have to go through several thousand station "articles" and tag them as stubs of low importance? --FrankieG123 (talk) 00:47, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RijnGouweLijn[edit]

Could someone take a look at RijnGouweLijn. This was translated from Dutch by a non-native English speaker three years ago, using automatic translation. While appreciating that effort, the article really needs a complete rewrite into natural English by a native speaker, and a considerable amount of duplication needs eliminating. Madrid Commuter Train[edit]

A ton of work needs to be done of articles about Madrid's commuter train network, Cercanías. Articles about the stations and lines are almost non-existent. It looks like many of the stations' pages were created by a user on a block and therefore automatically deleted. And they've never been remade.
