Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Demographics of terrorism

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Demographics of terrorism was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was to merge with Terrorism.

Reasons: The article contains no citations, references or sources of information other than itself. It does reference by wikilink other pages in Wikipedia. Lance6Wins 14:32, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete. It is an attempt by Uncle Ed to preempt Xed on a personal sore point. Wikipedia is not to be used to prove a point. JFW | T@lk 16:02, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. Oh dear. Sole purpose is POV, and I can't see the value in trying to salvage from it or paper it over any content at this title at this time. Samaritan 19:37, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep and Cleanup. Serious need of NPOVing and other rephrasing but the subject is fine and fascinating, and the information no harder to verify than anything else in this controversial area. Agree that Wikipedia is not to be used to prove a point, but that doesn't necessarily mean deleting everything that is used in such attempts. Andrewa 19:53, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • I really wanted to vote keep, after Andrewa's vote, but I think we have an internal problem. The article requires that we have a Terrorism article and a List of terrorist organizations article to validate its references. Both of those are tied in knots of POV, VfD votes, RfC's, etc. Also, I think an article actually on the demographics of terrorism would be tres cool, but this doesn't seem to make the attempt. What are average incomes? What is the average marital status? What is the average level of education? Do the various avowedly terrorist groups differ substantially in these respects? An actual demographic analysis would be fascinating, but I don't think we need an article to say, "Not all terrorists are Islamic." I think most folks outside of a particular block in Washington, D.C. know this. I hope so, anyway. I have to vote delete, but with a sincere wish that there were a good article on the subject (and with a wish that I could summon enough optimism to believe that a democratic forum like ours could build it). • A real article on this topic would be valuable, but this is just unsourced nonsense. Delete. Jayjg 22:55, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Why an article? The topic would make a more natural subsection of Terrorism. Delete (but keep working on the idea...) - Mustafaa 00:48, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • A sub-section would be fine too, but I suspect if properly researched it would get large enough to eventually deserve its own article anyway. Jayjg 17:39, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • If expanded, it could be a great standalone article. The trick would be avoiding making it original research. As it stands though, it really belongs, if at all, mergeed (after cleanup and such) with the existing Terrorism article. Inky 01:14, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • The article was created by Ed Poor in order to weasel his way out of assertion that "all ]]. --user:Ed Poor (talk) 17:52, Nov 22, 2004 (UTC)
Note: Ed Poor suggests article is diverted to article created to support his assertion that "all terrorists are Islamic" - Xed 22:42, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. For reasons stated .
