Aircraft specs policy[edit]

Several weeks ago, you voted in the WikiProject Aircraft Specifications Survey. One of the results of the survey was that the specifications for the various aircraft articles will now be displayed using a template. Ericg and I have just finished developing that template; a lengthier bulletin can be found on the WT:Air talkpage. Naturally, we will need to begin a drive to update the aircraft articles. However, several topics in the survey did reach establish consensus, and they need to be resolved before we implement the template. It is crticial that we make some conclusion, so that updating of the specs can resume as soon as possible. You can take part in the discussions here. Thanks, Ingoolemo talk 06:00, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

AWB template conversion[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your help in converting aircraft articles to the template! Two suggestions:

  1. You can update your AWB settings file from User:Emt147/AWBsettings. It now uses regular expressions for a much more automated conversion process and it doesn't cut out random words like "performance" out of the text anymore. Add that page to your watchlist -- I update the settings file quite often as I go along to fix weird behaviors, and having the most updated version would make your life much easier.
  2. Please use the "Preview" function in AWB before saving your work -- one of the articles you converted was missing the closing }} and the specs were garbled.

Again thanks for all your help! This is a big endeavor and every little bit is hugely appreciated! - Emt147 Burninate! 03:51, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiWings[edit]

The WikiWings on your user page are a thankyou for your help with template migration. Thanks again! - Emt147 Burninate! 19:40, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot. Glad I can help. --Sylvain Mielot 04:33, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aircraft infobox consensus[edit]

I started a discussion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft to reach consensus on whether we should adopt a summary infobox for the aircraft pages. Please voice your opinion! If adopted, I will add it to the AWB settings file. - Emt147 Burninate! 17:48, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Air[edit]

I saw that you removed yourself from the WP:Air participants list. I hope you will continue to contribute -- your help with AWB and other edits have been tremendously appreciated. Thank you! - Emt147 Burninate! 05:55, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, just for a few months I hope, I'm just busy right now, so not much time to dedicate to wikipedia. I'll probably do a few edits here and there in the next few weeks, but nothing significant. --Sylvain Mielot 00:48, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Super 530 / MICA[edit]

Hi, you got any tips for keeping the two apart? To me both missiles look exactly alike. (I'm the one that put in the wrong picture you changed). - Dammit 16:48, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have 2 ways: the size, the Super 530 is bigger than the MICA. From the images http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mirage_2000c_1.jpg and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mirage2000_10.jpg you can see that the MICA is about the same size as the Magic II on the outer pylons whereas the Super 530 is larger. Also the position on the aircraft: the Mirage 2000 carries only 2 Super 530 on its main wing pylons but can carry 4 MICAs on the fuselage pylons. --Sylvain Mielot 18:04, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if you look at my geocities pages, you´ll see that there´s only information - no advertisements (except the proivider adds), when I add my shiplist to wikipedia i´ll do this direct, but i do not have the time to put the content from my geocites pages into wikipedia, maybe you can do this?

Image:MirageIII-schema.png listed for deletion[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:MirageIII-schema.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Fritz S. Links to Videos of World War II Aircraft Deleted Oct 7[edit]

Hello Sylvain -- I was very surprised to hear from you that you believe the new external links I added to the World War II aircraft pages to be in violation of Wikipedia guidelines, which I read before posting the links.

The aircraft videos I linked to on my site are all free. There is no charge for viewing them, so they are not "advertisements." (Perhaps you assumed there is some sort of fee to view them -- there isn't.)

My website has been online since 1997 and has never charged a penny to more than 2,000,000 visitors from around the world. Two years ago, we started selling DVDs to pay for our rapidly increasing video bandwidth costs. (There are over 14 hours of free World War 2 aviation video on our site for 24 aircraft.) Otherwise, we would have had to limit our material severely or abandon the site altogether.

I did a random check of some of the other World War II web sites that were on the links pages I posted on. They also have advertising, I am sure for the same reason we do. 99.9% of the visitors to our website do not buy anything, they only watch the free videos. We have received the Britannica Internet Guide Award and were a Yahoo "Pick of the Week."

As for the relevance of our material to the places where I posted them, I can not imagine a more relevant link to a Wikipedia page on the Boeing B-17 than a direct link to a page that shows a 25 minute video on "How to Fly the B-17." For the same reason, I linked directly to the videos for the P-51, B-25, P-47, etoile, etoile. This resulted in posting direct links on pages for many aircraft in Wikipedia, but IMO, that is appropriate for an encyclopedia where the most direct route to information is preferred. This not SPAM.

I suggest you review our site http://zenoswarbirdvideos.com and reconsider. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. I am still learning to communicate in Wikpedia. Please excuse any errors. Zeno Zeno303 (Talk)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Adforum screenshot.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Adforum screenshot.png. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NMajdantalk 14:43, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
