Merge with WYSIWYG[edit]

I don't think this is worth a seperate encyclopedia article - instead, it should be integrated into the WYSIWYG article. --Robert Merkel

Although WYSIAYG as an abbreviation is obviously WYSIWYG inspired, it is an entirely different concept. It doesn't belong on the WYSIWYG page. This article needs an extensive rewrite, but not a merge or delete. Shinobu 21:53, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

POV[edit]

Ties WYSIAYG to WYSIWYG. However any relation between the two terms is only historical, if existant at all. Whether something alows for WYSIWYG is an interface question. WYSIAYG is an entirely different issue about reusable styles and structured documents.

For example Word and Tex can both be used to create documents that do and don't suffer from WYSIAYG. One is WYSIWYG, the other is not.

In HTML CSS can be used, or not. Whether a WYSIWYG editor is used doesn't matter (in sofar as it supports CSS that is). If you don't use CSS, the document will suffer from WYSIAYG, whether you used a WYSIWYG editor or not. Shinobu 18:29, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Meaning[edit]

I've encountered two meanings of this word:

  • The issue described in the WYSIWYG article.
  • The issue described in this article.

Note that these issues are not the same. Shinobu 09:56, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
