Michael Foot[edit]

Biography of our Harold. 'Gushing' to me implies something OTT, revealing something more about the author than the person being praised (ie given forth without control). 'Fulsome' means what it says - a full praise (ie everything that can reasonably be said in favour is.). One suggests a full but balanced response the other (gushing) suggests overdoing it. Look up fulsome in the dictionary: Chambers has it as "sickeningly obsequioius; nauseatingly affectionate, admiring or praiseful . . .". Not what you think.

It does indeed (and S_OED similarly) - well, well I wonder what language I've been speaking the last 56 years :-)

George Orwell[edit]

Hi. I did the 'blanket' revert, except it wasn't intended to be 'blanket' & I tried to keep some of your edits to the vandalised version, although someone then made further factual additions and there was a conflict. The reason for moving the clause "In Homage to Catalonia" to the start of the sentence near the "describes" is because it reads better without the "when he arrived in". I guess my limited knowledge is coloured by Land and Freeom, so the original version seemed good. It seems the suppression of POUM started in May, but Orwell saw the results in June, so that sentence remains slightly ambiguous. Anyway, I know it's unreasonable to ask editors to check whether the version of the page they're editing has recently been vandalised, but it's something to keep an eye out for if possible. Tribune image[edit]

As Tribune (magazine) lacks any images, I thought the 1941 flyer on your blog [1] would make an interesting addition. What do you think?
