Use of Buddhism-simple

I propose the use of {{Template:Buddhism-simple}} instead of the "terse version" of {{Template:Buddhism}} so that the terse function can be deprecated (and deleted from the template). Alternatively the terse version can be merged with this -simple template.

--Elvenmuse (talk) 19:20, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm merging the changes that were made to Buddhism-simple into the "main template". I also propose that we use Buddhism-simple wherever {Budhism-terse} was used. --Elvenmuse (talk) 23:31, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Buddhism Title Text Coloring

Might it be better to have the template's "Buddhism" title set in a color that is not red? The reasoning for this being that, on first glance, it looks like a red link. Perhaps it should be set in either the standard link blue or a different color that represents the religion. -Martinman (talk) 16:47, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Buddhism-complete deleted

...because it is unused and no longer necessary. For archival purposes I will paste it here:

{{Buddhism-complete}} has been deleted. If any editor requires the old source, please let me know and I'll provide it. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 13:51, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Collapsable sidebar

How about changing the sidebar to a collapsable version? It takes less space in articles, yet gives more room to add links. See the template-page, in edit-mode. Joshua Jonathan (talk) 07:38, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

I did change the sidebar; the previous one was quite big, and some Buddhism-pages were overloaded with sidebar-space. See the Zen page for the result. Joshua Jonathan (talk) 08:09, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
There was a far simpler way to do this by using {{sidebar with collapsible lists}} instead of {{sidebar}}, instead of rewriting the entire template. I've made the relevant change to the old code. I see you also made some other content changes in the process: if you still feel they're necessary, feel free to add them back. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 13:52, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

I'd only suggest to make the sidebar smaller, the same size I'd used. It's still quite big now. But I'm not sure I'm able to fix that. Joshua Jonathan (talk) 15:10, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Nice template, anyway. Joshua Jonathan (talk) 15:19, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Collapsing the entire thing, as you've done with the various buddhism boxes, is not currently supported by {{sidebar}}. I imagine it;s doable if someone puts the work in. There are possibly accessibility problems with that technique as well, though I can't be certain of that without closer inspection. The important thing is that {{sidebar with collapsible lists}} is overall a much simpler and better-tested way of doing large, collapsible lists than hand-made tables, and it doesn't add too much to the overall footprint when collapsed. I'll work on converting the rest of the buddhism templates for parity when I can. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 18:43, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
It's much simpler indeed. But it still takes quite some space. I'd prefer a smaller template. But, I'm definately not skillfull on those things, so I'll have to live with that. Oh well, "put a stone in your shoe when everything goes fine", as a Jewish saying states. Greetings, Joshua Jonathan (talk) 19:43, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Nepal Portal should be listed in this template. Manzildrewpoudar (talk) 06:47, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Not done You would need consensus before making such a change - and IMHO this seems undue. It could lead to lots of other portals asking to be added, whereas the template should only link to things that are a sub-section of Buddhism - like the various Canons. - Arjayay (talk) 15:58, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Please change "Dharmacakra" (the link on the image) to "Dharmachakra", to which it redirects. 84.63.144.36 (talk) 19:49, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Propose to add Devotion to practices

I propose to add devotion to the category of practices. Devotional practices are very fundamental and ubiquitous in Buddhist countries. Please note that this is a proposal, and not a semi-protected edit request.--Farang Rak Tham (talk) 15:16, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Please change the hyperlink of the heading "Chinese" under the "Traditions" section from Chinese Buddhist canon to Chinese Buddhism. There's already a link to Chinese Buddhist canon in the template and changing the link to Chinese Buddhism is more accurate. TheCherryPanda (talk) 16:37, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

The Birth Date of Buddha is not correct on Wikipedia page. The actual date of birth is 566 BCE and the actual Maha-Parinirvana (death) is 486 BCE. The fact that King Ashoka's coronation to the throne was held after 218 years of Buddha's Mahaparinirvana (death). King Ashoka was most probably coronated in 269-68 BCE (assuming the period of 4/5 years as period of power struggle within Maurya Dynasty after the death of Bindusara (Ashoka's father) in 272 BCE). Since Ashoka was not a crown prince, there was power struggle between the sons of Bindusara (an uncertainty regarding the succession of Empire). Eventually Ashoka succeeded to power (Thapar, Romila 2012, Ashoka and the Decline of the Mauryas, Oxford University Press, pp. 18). 14.139.69.38 (talk) 11:58, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Not done. This is the talk page for the Buddhism sidebar template that appears in various articles. Please discuss this at Talk:Buddhism instead (if that's the page with information you're objecting to). –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 15:32, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
