  • What is a CEGEP? It's never stated on the page, and I believe that articles ought to answer questions, not pose them, and should expand acronymns before using them. Colleges and universities have typically been "in," so I don't have a problem if it's a post-secondary institution (and there are reasons for the distinction that have nothing to do with age of student).     • Your question could have easily been answered here or even here, but in short, a CEGEP is a post-secondary educational institution of sorts unique to Quebec which serves as an intermediary school before one goes off to attend university.     • I saw the wikilink, but my point was that the article steamrolls ahead as if there were a project to get every CEGEP in Wikipedia and, of course, we all already know what one is. I'm not fond of such assembly line articles, and, more to the point, I don't think that an acronymn should be used before the expansion, unless it's such a common acronymn as to be in common knowledge. I'm not sure community colleges in the US, certainly, are notable by nature. Still abstaining on this one. Geogre 15:00, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

    • COMMENT Vanier College is more notable than the average CEGEP, because it is one of the few English language CEGEPs in Quebec, a French speaking part of North America that actively seeks to extinguish English through restrictive laws on access to English education and use in business and financial documents. 132.205.15.43 02:34, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • COMMENT -- Can we agree if the strange animals known as CÉGEPs are notable in themselves or need something else? They dispense ISCED 97 Level 4A and 5B (pdf) education. For the benefit of our American readers, their High school is 3A and Universities at the bachelor and masters are 5A. As Rad Man pointed out, they're a lot like Community colleges, but I believe these dispense bona fide, if incomplete, 5A education. A lot of Cégeps have famous Alumni and profs (literary authors, for instance), but, despite some effort, the research at this level is next to insignificant. Apart from the most (Bréboeuf, for instance) or least (Saint-Laurent) prestigious, where someone went to Cégep is not particularly important. -- Céçaquiéça 04:56, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)
