Yes, I noticed how Robert Kahn (composer) "blue-linked" so suddenly :). My command of the German language is really limited to about two semesters' taken at the end of college, and that was fourteen years ago; occasionally skimming articles in German since does help, I suppose. Translating other wiki-articles is a good idea which hadn't really occurred to me, and the Deutsch'Wiki is a good source for article raw material on which to build, I think. (I have no preparations yet to create any of the articles listed - the only article raw material I have placed together and on hand is for a few work articles, e.g. Piano Trio No. 1 (Brahms), String Quartet No. 11 (Dvorak), ... and not much material at that.)

As to the rest — I've been thinking about compiling a list of those which do not yet have counterparts in English. Such a list would help to indicate the gaps which should be filled with priority. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Ah, thanks again. Was going to include Symphony No. 2 (Schumann) also but someone's begun that, already... (And I remember hearing that polonaise; if you haven't, its themes belong, as I recall, to the scherzo's trio and main part respectively, but I'd have to check :) My notes on the Brahms are the only extensive ones, unfortunately, but as the person who transcribed/uploaded two movements' worth of midis of Dvorak qt 11 to the Classical Music Archives I may be able to think of something.) Other good ideas, I think - m:de:Max Butting (well, I've seen his 10th sym. anyway), m:de:Boris Iwanowitsch Tischtschenko (7th sym on Naxos; I've heard the odd 2nd and like it. Quartets were on Olympia.), m:de:Kees van Baaren (some works on Donemus LPs), m:de:Ernst Pepping, m:de:Jānis_Ivanovs, m:de:Hendrik Andriessen (father of Louis and Jurriaan and an estimable composer himself, just looking at m:de:Kategorie:Komponist gives ideas. It's sad that I've heard some of these people...), some others still... (the interesting Anatoli (not the same as Alexander) Aleksandrov doesn't seem to have a de: article - it seems his name in German transliteration is Anatoli Aleksandrov , not Aleksandrow as I'd expect, but neither goes to an article page?. Though I am not officially part of the project, I have been merging lots of material into articles, see History of the Jews in Egypt, History of the Jews in Poland, History of the Jews in France, synagogue architecture and many others. Excessive disambiguation

RE: Klemperer, Greenblatt, Raskin, etc.: "In most cases, do not list names of which Title is a part, unless the persons are very frequently referred to simply by their first or last name (e.g. Galileo, Shakespeare)." and "Disambiguation pages are not intended for games of "free association". Please use them carefully and only when needed {emphasis added}." from Wikipedia:Disambiguation. Also, redirs for capitalization differences that are automatically found by Search, such as Norwich terrier, are kinda pointless (AKA not needed), as all it does is add a distracting "(Redirected from Norwich terrier)" to the display even tho' the article would have been found anyway. 24.17.48.241 08:23, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

Liturgy of St John Chrysostom

Hello. With your encouragement, I am planning to prepare an article on the liturgy - when I have time, of course. There certainly is lots to cover, so I will be doing some research. I also think your idea of listing classical works that need starting is a very good one.

Do you think the Vespers page should cover other settings besides Rachmaninoff's? There's Alexander Gretchaninoff's version, which did come first, as well as several others, but I'm sure everyone is more acquainted with Rachmaninoff's.

Moscheles

Hi there. Can we really think of Moscheles as a Czech composer? He was born in Prague, certainly, but at a time when no Czech state existed, and the country was known as Bohemia (and was of course part of the Austrian Empire). There is no evidence of Bohemian or other Czech strands in his music. He identified himself as (and was identified by others as) a Jew, at least until the baptism of his children, and continued to move in Jewish circles thereafter, so there is reason to list him amongst Jewish musicians. He left Prague in his early teens and only returned there rarely for concerts or to see his family. I don'tknow of any evidence of him visiting any other part of what is now the Czech Republic. So does simply being born in Prague make him a Czech musician? Wiki guidelines seem unclear about this sort of thing. Best regards --Smerus 06:22, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Jewish Encyclopedia

I know nothing about about programming but surely there must be a simple way to have a bot change all the unusual charachters to ch and tz etc.. And to put the "link things" in the correct places add the "Jewish encyclopedia tag".

Someone could then go through the stuff and add categories from a set list, change the first lines styling and POP!! Great new article, since most of them are fairly formulaic biographies.

I think that this is the only way that the 15,000 or so outstanding articles from the Jewish Encyclopedia will ever get done. Your thoughtts?

I’m looking for people just willing to tell their story of how they got sucked into the intellectual whirlwind that is Wikipedia, how you got started editing, how the obsession grew, and what you spend your time focusing on these days? Do you write articles from scratch? Is your main push toward one particular type of article? Do you patrol for typos and errors, or spend your time diligently fixing vandalism? Do you take part in the “social aspects” of Wikipedia; engaging in animated discussions or decorating your user page with all sorts of internet memes? Have you forced yourself to take a “Wikipedia break”? If so, what’s your 20/20 hindsight on the obsession? Also, re Scontrino- I have a webpage with midis of Scontrino's G minor quartet, not by me- probably linking there would be self-promotion, but I'm thinking I should ask the person who created them for permission to upload them here. Very good way to get a handle on his style; the later movements especially (the first too, but the second-fourth even more) are, in my opinion, very fine writing. The Ridky 7th's been on before and I don't doubt will be again. Now if br-online.de/bayern4 will program something by Trapp or Hessenberg... A point re some of the list pages

which I do think are growing out of hand and being used for point-pushing- this can be handled in a few ways. Requiring that a composer be notable- not that they have their own page- before a work of theirs be included in the list of works for cello and piano seems reasonable enough- and vanity entries should still be wiped (preponderance of evidence I think, not beyond reasonable doubt)- else, people who might otherwise seek out the pages for repertoire to hear and perform will see first the bulk and not the variety and interest. Compositions

In the past two weeks or so, I (and User:Rocket000) have been going through a lot of the music requests and trying to clean them up and write a few; there are an enormous number of requests and few to no people trying to fill them or thin out the rubble. I consolidated some of the satellite articles into the main music page, including Festivals/Concerts and Producers, because these were not overseen by any WikiProjects and weren't particularly long. User:Wizardman then consolidated the instruments and compositions pages a few days later. To my knowledge, there has been no discussion of any of this, and you are the first person to say anything about it, if not the first person to notice. I have no real opinion about the compositions page being separate; if the people who use it (assuming there are people who use it) would prefer it be separate, that's fine with me; so is having it on the main music requests page.
