Talk:Scientific materialism

When people talk of contradictions between science and religion, technically thay are speaking of contradictions between scientific materialism and religion, since science is 'agnostic' regarding the validity of religion.

Science (as opposed to scientific materialism) is not agnostic of religion when religion makes a scientifically falsifiable claim. E.g. the world is only several thousands of years old. Then science (not only scientific materialism) and religion contradict.

An alternative/additional change to my addition of sometimes might be not to use contradiction or to add that the claims of religion can contradict science (not only scientific materialism).

Unfortunately redirecting this to materialism only confuses matters, as it suggests atheist materialism. Science uses Methodological materialism which redirects to Naturalism (philosophy), a page which fully covers the subject. ...dave souza 10:58, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
