Hi LiT, I saw your contribution to List of Islamic terms in Arabic. I actually didn't know the difference between Illah and Allah. You are certainly free to edit any article you wish. My one suggestion is to make the tone "encyclopedic". If you know something is wrong in an article, go ahead and change it, rather than commenting on it. One of the guiding principles of Wikipedia is Be bold!. Feel free to drop me a note on my user page if you have any questions I might help you with. Cheers, BanyanTree 05:18, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Allah & God[edit]

LiT, if you take a look at this website, [1], you'll find a verse by verse translation of the Qur'an as done by three different translators. By comparing their versions, you can get some idea of the choices that they made in turning Arabic into English. One thing you should notice is that when one translator writes god or GOD, another translator writes Allah. It's the SAME WORD. Making an artificial distinction between the deity and his/her "proper name" is adding something that is not necessarily there in the text.

I hope I'm not going to discourage you when I remove your addition. A list of terms is not the best place to discuss abstruse theological or exegetical points. Also, a number of the citations you give would seem to be inaccurate; they're off by one verse. You may have used a version of the Qur'an with a different numbering system.
