Born May 12, 1948 (3rd of Iyyar) to Fred & Loretta Woodburn in Long Beach, California.

Grew up in California, Illinois, Costa Rica, Ecuador (where parents were missionaries with HCJB in Quito), and Florida.

Married Virginia Neely July 19, 1969. Have four children: Heather, David, Jonathan and Valerie (twins).

Receive a B.A. from Florida Bible College, 1970; earned an M.Div. from Grace Theological Seminary, 1976.

• Pastored New Salem Church of the Brethren, Milford, Indiana (1972-76). • Started own business: Alan's Piano Tuning and Repair, Houston, Texas (1977-1979). • Pastored Alief Community Church, Houston, Texas (1979-1986). • Served as a missionary with Greater Europe Mission in Barcelona, Spain (1986-1993), teaching at the Spanish Bible Institute and Theological Seminary. • Taught and served as President of Florida Bible College, Kissimmee, Florida (1994-1995). • Pastored Faith Baptist Church, Kissimmee, Florida (1996-2003).
